Emerging Legal Markets....

Choosing a school based on it's location within an emerging legal market may make a lot of sense. Question: Which legal markets are emerging or at least growing alongside an relatively thriving economy or population? (state-level)

Of course, it's probably impossible to say any economy is "thriving" at this point so I mean weathering the economic storm better than other regions while positioning themselves for growth when things stabilize, at least generally speaking.

Indianapolis? Atlanta? Pacific NW? Surely it's not CA, NYC, or DC. Which legal markets do you think will be strongest for new JD's in 3 years?

I'm just gonna guess what's going to keep chugging along, assuming that nothing is truly "emerging" right now:

DC - Yes, everyone and their aunt wants a government job right now, but it's still the best bet in the county for recession proof jobs - provided you go to a T14/tier 1+ DC school

Pittsburgh - Healthcare, healthcare, healthcare.

Delaware - super business friendly = still more law jobs than usual.

Salt Lake City - again, business friendly.

Baltimore - again, health jobs.

Indy - Manufacturing has tanked in Indiana, but the state is otherwise financially sound.

Houston - Healthcare?

I'm gonna say that IP in Minn/St. Paul is pretty strong right now and continuing to grow.

I would say any place where natural gas and other energy-production fields are growing. Say, Tex, Okla., Ark. and others. Also, anywhere where people need/want but can't get enough water.

So, I guess ... flyover territory w/ focus on enviro&natural resources?

haha, yes.

I've heard stories from a few professors about legal jobs being outsourced.
