I haven't seen many discussions about t2 schools' rankings and I thought it'd be a good time to start talking about it. Let's predict which schools will move up or down t2 in 2011!

random question: would you consider taking on lots of debt to attend a t2 school?

most I would do is 60k in-state for UF.

There are good reasons why a person would attend T2 w/ lots of debt. For example, someone who is an engineering major intending to do IP, or have a family/relative/friend who can get you a job, or it's his dream to be a lawyer and be able to say "I object!" in front of of a judge. Your passion is also worth more than 200K.

Not when you're drowning in so much debt that bankruptcy becomes a very real possibility.

I'll be going t2, but my CoL will be taken care of and I will probably get some decent scholly money. This is the only way I can justify the decision.

+1. let's be honest here. you need to work with what god gave you, and if your "passion" isn't working out, you should go elsewhere.

there are plenty of teenagers whose "passion" is the NBA, but most end up in normal jobs like anyone else. would you really advise someone that is 5'7" and uncoordinated to attend a 200k professional basketball training camp?

but then the other side says "I object!"... and you remember that you can't declare bankruptcy on student loans...

You obviously never had a passion. Passion is not rational. I have pursued a passion to the path of financial ruin. While afterwards I can say it may not have been the wisest thing to do, it nonetheless was the most exciting/rewarding/satisfying thing I have ever done.

I am not saying that attending a T2 to the tune of $200k is an endeavor one should def. pursue, or if it is really a passion... I am just saying passion is worth any amount of money. You would understand if you had one. It allows me to say "I have lived".

Let's all hope they do indeed change the loan repayment requirement for student loans then. But I guess that only applies to federal administrated loans.

Hahahhaha! My guess is UConn will break T50 again, and (surprise surprise) I think that Case Western will break T50. And I am not sure about Penn State in 2011, but it's been quietly rising through the ranks and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it breaks T50 in the next 3 years or so. Of course, these are all fact-less guesstimates with absolutely nothing to back them up.

If you're going to spend 200K for a second tier JD, you are better off throwing that sum on a literal craps table.
