you are the only one. everyone else in HYP's graduating classes will be going to H or Y for law school.

Doesn't matter, though your HYP UG degree may look good to employers. You will likely be surrounded by tons of Ivy kids. I can't even tell you how many Columbia grads there are at Fordham, and you will certainly be among your own former classmates at a T20.

(I think I made a very solid upgrade, though my UG technically wasn't ranked, so it's hard to tell.)

Also, its not that big of a deal. Recognize that and you should be all set.

A good friend of mine went to BU for law school and said it seemed like all his classmates came from ivy league undergrad schools. I really don't think it is considered moving "down" to attend a Top 20 school, regardless of where you went to undergrad.

This is really common. Hastings, for example, is full of Yale undergrads. T14 law schools are difficult for everyone to get into, even those who went to HYP for undergrad.

Pretty sure I'll at least hold serve. I may have a shot at an upgrade... but I may end up at my undergrad, which is fortunately nothing to sneeze at since its ranks are pretty close to each other. Splitter/T14 love/hate relationships making decisions drag on FTL

Makes me very happy that I took the full tuition scholarship for undergrad instead of blowing my money on that degree.

I'm the exact opposite. There's no way I could've gotten the job I'm doing after UG if I went to Rutgers (my state school) since it only recruits at the top UGs so I'm glad I "blew" my money on the degree before I blow more money on my JD.

I'm crazy upgrading myself, it's fantastic!

Yeah, I was able to hit my 1 career goal other than law school so it worked out for me, but I can definitely see how someone that wanted to, or just ended up doing the UG -> Work -> Back to law school approach could benefit from a school w/ good name recognition. So someone in your situation definitely didn't blow their money. Someone that went HYP then straight to William & Mary probably isn't going to benefit from their UG degree too much tho.

You know, you will always be able to name-drop. You can go to Podunk School of Law, graduate, and then be like "I went to H/Y/P" to people and they'll be like "OH REALLY?" and it's still true.

If you end up going to a respectable law school (and all the 15-20 schools will be) then your resume will still look good. I mean, Harvard+USC Law is going to look good to people, as an example.

Well you could always work your butt off and transfer.

The average Harvard undergraduate scores a 166 on the LSAT. Let's say the average GPA of a Harvard undergraduate is a 3.5 (and that's very generous). The average Harvard undergraduate does not get into a T14 this cycle, nor does the average Yale undergraduate. (Q.E.D.)

Major assumption of course being that the average Harvard or Yale undergraduate actually applies to law school.

I'd def say I'm getting a bump up, considering 99.5% of Americans haven't heard of the school I go to now.

considering you are both going for the JD now and will be on a roughly equal playing field in the legal job search (UG can count a little bit though), I think MF got the better deal. I have to say that for someone DEADSET on pre-law from high school, cheap u-grad is the way to go it seems.

Unfortunately, going down a notch leaves you scarred for life, because the level of prestige affixed to your name gets permanently lowered.

I will be moving way, way up. There's just something about going to a school that someone's heard of before.
