In a Bar in Ithaca

To escape the cold. Was snowing dramatically this morning, now sort of blue skies. Am listening to a law school conversation (I think) behind me.

Everyone really should visit here...after all the complaints I've heard, I actually think it's a really charming town after walking around for a few hours (can't feel my ears). Have a class visit, meeting and tour tmrw. I'm gonna be a little bored till then, but it's the only time my flights worked out (I was already traveling for work).

So if anyone has any tips...

Collegetown Bagel was a pretty cool spot. Good asian food in downtown Ithaca. I kind of dug the bar next to the bagel place. ...It's probably a little cold to check out the 'falls. (That's why I visited in September 8) )

You should check the Nines if you have time. Awesome deep dish pizza.

I most certainly have time. Am planning a little food/bar crawl at his point all by myself.

And, yeah, I definitely like Rulloffs, BWPNs.

Till at the bar. Got hit on by a 19 year old. God I feel old and dirty.

I also feel like I'm drunk texting TLS at this point. But...aside from all the helpful suggestions I've gotten so far that were more general...any good dinner suggestions?

I visited just a couple of days ago. Did you already have your tour? Lovely, innit?

When husband and I go to Ithaca we like to visit the moosewood restaurant. But we're hippie types like that.

If the weather were nicer I'd check out a local vineyard.

Does the ithaca farmer's market run in winter too? it's amazing and worth checking out if you're there through Saturday morning. :)

ETA: We had some fabulous tapas in Ithaca once, at a place that's right next to a steak restaurant. I realize i'm not being very helpful.... but if you go by the tapas place and wonder if it's any good, it is

I think we should start a thread for drunk texting TLS. It would be worth paying the contract on an internet phone for.

Good for the 19 year old for giving it a shot.

The tapas place is Just a Taste, on Aurora (The commons). If you get there and they are too busy or you aren't excited about it, then you will be surrounded by other options...

Go on a winery tour.

Some of them make their own chocolate.

Can't remember which I did, which should tell you it was a blast.

My main advice about Ithaca is to not mistake how enjoyable it may be for a day or two with how god-fucking-awful it is to live there year round. Your mileage may of course vary, but... *shudder*
Back up off the Haunt meng, it's FANTASTIC.

Most law students don't live in Ithaca year-round, since they have jobs and shit, so I'm not sure how relevant your point is.

If you like pad thai, go to Asian Noodle House for dinner. It's on Dryen Road, a few doors up the hill from Collegetown Pizza, which is at the corner of College Ave. and Dryden Rd.

This is why I could never ever live there for any real length of time. I got snowed in here in VA for only a couple days and wanted to /killself by the time the roads were clear again.

It's open from April to December. So right now it's closed, unfortunately.

Dino's is a good place to go on Thursday nights. 25 cent wings.
