The "Tier" label on law schools

Now, in my first year of my undergrad and have had a desire to go to law school for a while, which led me to this site. I have seen the law schools, the top ones referred to as "tier 1" and in a recent post someone said that notre dame was not a tier one school. where is the cut off? what makes a law school attain a "tier 1" status?

Tier 1 = 1-50
Tier 2 = 51-100
Some people consider tier 1 to be the entire top 100. Many members of this board consider law schools to be nonexistent after the top 14. Do some searching on the site and you'll find numerous threads on this. ND is firmly in tier 1.

Maybe it is me, but i feel like the wording in this discussion is almost identical to one in the past. Like for real...the question and response seems like verbatim to another post about a year ago or so.

Yuuuup. I think this question has been asked so many times that there's a fairly go-to answer.
