George Mason 2013

Post by rockthelaw » Mon Dec 28, 2009 10:52 am

I know there are some other great threads about Mason Law, specifically this one (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&start=25), however I was wondering if anyone had updated information or new thoughts on the school. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just RSVPed for the 27th, tho I doubt I will enroll in GMU. Cost too much for me (out of state and I do not think I will get any $).

Sometime either this week (unlikely), or next week (likely). They're not known for the big payoffs. :)

@ AbsolutLax

Housing is a make or break issue for me, where do mason students find affordable housing. Additionally, how is the commute? I went to the ASW and I could not find this information from speaking with Mason Law students. Is there affordable housing within walking/bike distance of campus? Or do most students have to live in Fairfax and commute long distances?

Just got the call this morning, I'm in! Excited to visit, but I don't know when I am going to go see the school. Anybody have thoughts about what to see while in Arlington?

I've made my decision, going to send in the letter and the money this week! Now to the next step: Affordable Housing

Are you local or out of town? If you don't mind a commute, there are some reasonable places in the 'burbs. A girlfriend of mine is paying very little (w/ 1 roommate) in Centreville. She has a car, so commute is no prob for her. Her place is great! Just a thought.

It depends on what you consider affordable I guess. If you want to live in Arlington, making the commute almost nothing do to our great metro system, then you'll pay more money. I live in a two bedroom for 950 utilities included. You could save a bunch of money on the commute if you live close by. If you live in Fairfax it might be cheaper. You just have to know going in that this is an expensive place to live, but if you look on Craig's list you can find some good deals.

I agree with Absolut. Arlington's expensive. However, it's completely worth it. I love living here. If you choose Mason, I would make it a priority to live inside the beltway. Commuting with traffic from somewhere like Centerville will make you absolutely hate it here. If you're really in a pinch and can't afford to live near the metro, there are great areas off George Mason Drive towards route 50. If it's just you, you can probably afford to rent a room out of someone's house nearby, so that you're within walking distance. This area's very bike-friendly too. Career opportunities here are unparalleled.
