159/3.8 Chemistry Native

Postby BamBam2772 » Mon Nov 14, 2016 11:18 am

Hello, all.
I was wondering if I stand a chance at Vanderbilt, University of Tennessee or any top 14 school. I know I have a low LSAT and am retaking in December. I was wondering if I could apply with any success just to remove some stress before retaking. I I have 3.8 GPA as a chemistry major and am enrolled as a Native American. Thanks
EDIT: also would it be worth rolling the dice at Notre Dame. I am really interested in any tier 1 law school. I have seen a few people on lsn make it in with close to the same lsat scores.

Are you a card carrying member of a tribe? Regardless, still out at t14 and Vandy with that LSAT.

Yes I am card holding. I figured I would be out at any top 14.

Apply as early as you can if you haven't already. You will probably receive a number of fee waivers/and or invitations. HYSCMC within the t14 have excellent native programs. Other schools seldom have natives. Notre Dame reports 1 native in the school since you mentioned them. Just check the class stats on the LSAC website. Your LSAT is a tad low but your GPA provides a wonderful offset within your demographic. You are essentially 75% Cornell GPA and "only" 6 below their 25% LSAT. Not at all out of the question. Cornell has a robust native community.

Don't assume you will not receive serious consideration. Natives are such a small group. Put together the best application you can. Some schools...Yale for example will provide you with writing samples... in their case for the unique Yale 250 essay. Good luck.

Thanks for the answers. I have another question, if y'all do not mind. Would it be best to wait for new LSAT score or go ahead with score as is? I looked on LSN and the odds came out about the same for some schools if I applied now with a 159 versus if I applied in January with a 165 which I think is possible for me.

Apply now... like today. The schools that care about this demographic often prefer to get this outreach done early so they can tinker with their medians later on. You can certainly let them know that you plan on retaking. A higher LSAT, say that 165 the mention, could get you money from the lower t14, and one or more of HSC.
