Lifetime NC resident.
Undergrad in State (smaller, private University).

Will be applying in the fall with these numbers:
UGPA- 3.6
LSAT- 157

I have two summers of Law Firm experience (both lawyers were UNC Law grads), and a summer internship at a top 5 US bank corporate center (finance department).

What are my realistic chances of getting into UNC? I will apply to Campbell, Elon and NCCU.

Thanks!!

retake for scholarship money. Not worth attending at full price.

I agree. Even with in-state tuition, I'd think very hard about paying sticker, unless I were independently wealthy or would otherwise not have to worry about paying for tuition or cost of living or had a guaranteed job waiting on the other side of law school.

Only NCCU would be a cheaper option, so I'm not as concerned with price (scholly $) as I am getting accepted.
So it seems both of you believe I would be accepted with very little [if any] $$ help.

Thanks for the replies.

Actually, a couple hundred dollars for an LSAT retake, increasing the possibility of tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money...would also be a cheaper option. Your life, and I understand that, but I urge you to consider the possibility that a retake may be the best option here.

Retake with what score as a goal? 161 or so?

163/higher puts you above their 75th percentile, in combination with your ~75th percentile gpa, would put you in a great position for a large scholarship. Even if you don't quite get there, every point between your current score and 163 would increase your chances for drastically lowering tuition. Think of every hour you spend studying as an investment potentially worth hundreds of dollars/hr. Good luck!

No problem. And thanks, I've got a lot of haters to prove wrong this season.

Thought I would try to help you here...I had a 3.7/160 and got into UNC with a nice scholly and will be attending this Fall. I do think you have shot - my suggestion is to apply really early. I applied in early November and didn't hear back until late March, but I reiterated my interest MANY times throughout the process. Not sure if this helps either, but I am out-of-state as well.

Legallyrose is also a URM. You may not have a similar outcome with similar numbers if you are not also a URM. Also, Legallyrose's advice to apply early and indicate your level of interest is great advice!

I consider myself a URM, but not sure if all schools do (Cuban/Brazilian/Colombian Hispanic).

Here to help in any way I can :)

Campbell Law has lost 30ish spots on the US news rankings in the span of only 1 year.

The employment numbers are terrible, and even worse when you consider that many alums simply hang out a shingle because there is nothing better for them.

I graduated in 2013 cum laude. I still am unable to find a job. If I were to cross the state line to find work in another jurisdiction they wouldn't know where I went to law school. Go to UNC. A full ride at Campbell does not hold a candle to UNC.

Do Not Go To Campbell.

Please consider taking a look at the job market. It sounds like you have some experience working in firms, but ask your self if you have a guaranteed job when you leave law school. If you don't, absolutely do not spend 50k in loans and tuition to attend an unranked law school in Raleigh.

If you have a true hankering to be an attorney and you cant get into UNC, and you cant wait a year to improve your LSAT score; just go to NCCU. It will be the same law license on your wall.

Speaking as a practicing attorney in NC, I can tell you that UNC and Wake are your best bets for some of the bigger regional firms and, to a lesser extent, the biglaw firms with offices in NC. Elon is a non-starter. Campbell gears grads up for hanging a shingle or finding a spot at a small firm where they may have had a good relationship in their home town before law school. It is uncommon for Campbell grads to work in larger firms. NCCU has very low employment numbers, so be wary of attending, despite the attractive low COA.

UNC and Wake are solid options when discounted below sticker. UNC may be less expensive than many schools when in-state tuition is factored in, but that does not mean that it (or almost any school) is worth the cost of full price. You are only a few GPA points away from giving yourself a good shot at scholarship money from UNC. It is absolutely worth the retake.
