3.92 GPA/154 LSAT
I've applied to many schools in the southwest region with my 154 LSAT and 3.92 GPA. I'm from AZ and looking specifically to go to ASU, or Arizona as a second choice--though, I have not received decisions yet from either. These are my top choices because I'd like to practice in-state and be close to family. The highest ranked school that I've been accepted to so far is Colorado, but w/o a scholarship as of the moment. I'm sort of biting my nails here waiting on admissions decisions from each of the two state schools, and I think it is safe to say I will not be receiving a scholarship if admitted.
I'm wondering what some of you would do if placed in my situation. I studied hard (25 hrs/week) for 3 months of summer using 7sage, then study time dwindled away to 0 hrs/week once the school year started. I tested in December w/o getting a fresh look at any of my study material and was about -7 in each section, until the 5th section--Reading Comp--where I bombed more or less from lack of endurance.
I am 21 and graduating a year early this month. Would a retake to shoot for a scholarship be worth the year of waiting? This may be an easy answer for some of you, but I seem to be blinded by naivety.
Thoughts?

I'll say it anyway though: yes, 100%, without a doubt it would be worth the time to retake. You can get money and stay in state for free with a respectable LSAT or broaden your horizons with t14 options. You worked hard to get that GPA, don't waste it!

Definitely retake. Buy the Powerscore books or sign up for a test prep course - do whatever you need to in order to raise your score. If you can boost your score by 10 points (which is entirely doable) you're probably looking at ASU or Arizona for free.

I'll put it this way, I'm in the 3.5-3.6 GPA range with the same exact official LSAT ( 154) ...and decided to retake and currently in the 168-172 range.
The LSAT is easily the most important part of your applicant.
You got the hardest part done and out of the way ( GPA ) , now you need to get that LSAT!

Retake the LSAT. As noted above, you've done the hard work over 3 or 4 years of college to earn a stellar GPA of 3.92, now is not the time to settle for (and pay dearly for) mediocrity.
P.S. I do not mean to suggest that your current acceptance to Colorado is in any way to be diminished, it's just that a higher LSAT (above 160) should get you significant scholarship offers from many tier one law schools.

First off, let me thank all of you for your input. I'm leaning toward the retake route, because why not graduate with little to no debt?
My question to you, Broncos15, is what method have you used to increase your score so drastically, and how long has it taken you? I've had my eye on Blueprint, but I'm really open to many options.Broncos15 wrote:I'll put it this way, I'm in the 3.5-3.6 GPA range with the same exact official LSAT ( 154) ...and decided to retake and currently in the 168-172 range.

Study like crazy. Taking a few months off and taking the test without reviewing will hurt. Review your mistakes and figure out where you need the most improvement. Not which section, that should be obvious, but which question types - this really helped me.duderguy wrote:First off, let me thank all of you for your input. Speaking to your reading comp stamina, I had the same issue. Started doing back to back PTs which might be crazy for some but my score improved 14 points when I retook. When you're used to doing 8 sections in a row, the real thing feels like a breeze.
Simply put, go overboard! You will thank yourself when you have a 170 to go with your awesome GPA you'll be made in the shade.

you should work for a couple years and put the LSAT off. Get a job, and reassess when you're older. Law sucks, and you can prolly do better just using your GPA to get a job.

I had similar numbers with the exact same idea to go to either ASU or UofA. I decided to retake. I increased my score by about 10, and am going to USC/UCLA for close to free. Take 6 months to study, and you only need to study a few hours every day with a practice test or two on the weekends. There are so many helpful resources for conquering that test. Don't settle, you'll regret it. Heck, you can go to any school you want by just putting in the work since you've already got the GPA.
