Apply to Stanford?
I scored a 173 on the December LSAT (a three point improvement over my September score). After making the ill advised decision to inform my parents that my LSAT was at the medians for HY, they are really pushing me to apply to HYS for the heck of it, even after I explained my 3.66 GPA makes it incredibly unlikely I'll get in (a statement backed up by my MYLSN results). I am unlikely to apply to HY given that I think it would be simply a waste of money, but I am wondering if it might be worth throwing an app at Stanford since my LSAT is three points above their median, even though MYLSN suggests I don't really have a chance (something I don't entirely understand--does Stanford just really love high GPAs?). Thoughts?
Edit: Sorry, might have been better placed in the "What are my chances?" forum. Now realize the above statement re: Stanford LSAT median was based on outdated LSN median.

You probably have a better shot at Harvard than Stanford.

Guessing you have a much better shot at H than S. YS are almost certainly not happening but personally I would probably apply for the YOLO factor.

Is that just because you really need like a 3.9 GPA for Stanford?Mullens wrote:You probably have a better shot at Harvard than Stanford.

Stanford's current LSAT median is 172, just so you know (I think you might be looking at outdated numbers).

You're correct, it's unlikely that you'll be accepted at any of YHS. But unlikely candidates have been accepted before, I'm sure. I'd apply just for the "YOLO factor" as well and if you don't get in at least you'll know for sure and won't regret not even trying to apply later on.

Fair enough. I will send apps to HS. I just don't think I have any chance whatsoever for Y, and I don't really want to write the Yale 250. Thank you for the advice.thatsnotmyname wrote:You're correct, it's unlikely that you'll be accepted at any of YHS. But unlikely candidates have been accepted before, I'm sure. I'd shoot an app to H and forget about Y and S with those #s. H is gonna be thirsty for them high LSATs in this drought.

Re: Apply to Stanford?
Honestly, I would apply to all three. Your odds aren't great at any of them, but nor are you exactly out of the running. I don't know your financial situation, and so maybe it is presumptuous of me to say you should pay the application fees if you're in a tight position, but here is my thinking: the average American life expectancy is almost 80 years. Writing the Yale 250 will suck, but it will take you maybe a week if you do absolutely nothing else and just constantly tweak and rewrite it. In the scheme of things, that is nothing. The most likely outcome is that you get rejected by YHS, but do you seriously want to spend the rest of your life wondering whether you could have gotten in? With most peoples' numbers, I would say it isn't worth it. Yours are just high enough to give it a shot.

I would apply to all 3. I don't think your chances are that high unless you have a good explanation for the 3.66. Still, as the sayings go, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and you only live once. You might as well throw your hat in the ring and hope for the best.
