Re: 3.93/150
Kaplan? Troll response.
Ditch Kraplan.
Eta: The LSAT Trainer by Mike Kim is a great place to start over from scratch. I recommend you take the money you would spend on a Columbia app and buy that instead. Powerscore & 7Sage is great for LG. I think you need to study smarter. It's very hard to improve without the proper tools.

you cant get above a 150 on the LSAT either by dedication or the sheer lack of skill in that area and it matches your skill set how?hunt godlink wrote:

Re: 3.93/150
That is really only true if you get Biglaw. You are not getting Biglaw from any school that accepts you with a 150 or less. Unfortunately, you LSAT score is really determinative of your eventual career and success (or lack thereof).hunt godlink wrote:Good money.Dirigo wrote:Why though?hunt godlink wrote: At this point, my mind is pretty much set on law school.
You are way more likely to have six figure debt than a six figure salary.

well, kaplan is a pretty awful course, so that didn't helphunt godlink wrote:At a scale of 1-10, I would rate my effort at a 7. I took 1 Kaplan course before I studied abroad, and 1 course after.Brut wrote:considering it's 2 am on a sunday morning this thread is pretty bumpin

former lsat tutor here
i've had plenty of students start in that range, that's not so unusual
but if you put in a full year of serious prep and only got to 150, that raises some red flags
did you really put in serious effort?
if so, what was the score breakdown? how many wrong on lr, lg, rc?
On average I was getting 45% RC 50-60% LG and 45-55%LR correct. One possible explanation could be that I read exceptionally slow.
also would help if you put in serious hours, 20 hours+ a week is pretty common nowadays
i think you could probably make significant improvement studying the right way
but judging from the breakdown, i suspect there could be issues here that go beyond poor test taking
been tested for any learning disabilities/disorders? dyslexia and such?

Re: 3.93/150
It would be much more depressing to work hard for 3 years of law school, be in 200k debt and knowing that 50k would be a great outcome. My the LSAT is stressful but is the least stressful part of the whole process. You might need tutoring or to self study much more intensely. Just keeping up with a course workload is no where near sufficient. Even if you wanted to go this year the 150 simply is too low to make law school a good choice.
The reality is most people in this field are hardworking. Law school grading is all based off the test. Even the multiple choice ones are likely much more difficult than the LSAT. It's also different from college in that college is more of a work equals grades system. Law school isn't like that.

Re: 3.93/150
just to clarify my last post
the reason i ask is b/c 45% right on rc is 12 out of 27 questions
for putting in a year of prep that's really very low
i'd be inclined to think that's just where you're at intellectually, but you managed a 3.93 gpa and seem pretty articulate
so i'm wondering what else could be going on here

if you can't break 150 on the LSAT after 2 years of professional prep courses, you shouldn't go to law school
case closed
but this is a moot point anyway because this thread is a flame

Re: 3.93/150
dont worry about law school. if you cant raise your score 15 points, you arent getting in to make it worthwhile. You shouldn't worry about getting into schools, you should be worrying about your LSAT. If you cant raise it, change your career. SImple as that.hunt godlink wrote:Going based on my past performance, I don't think that my score would improve that much more even if I were to take a year off. I'm not concerned about tests in law school or the bar exam. Like I said, I am confident in my ability to succeed academically. I can honestly say that I am very hard working. I just can't seem to score well on the LSAT.AReasonableMan wrote:It would be much more depressing to work hard for 3 years of law school, be in 200k debt and knowing that 50k would be a great outcome. I'm going to law school and have pretty much already committed to it. Even if I can't get into a T25 law school, I can still become a lawyer and work for less money. Doesn't bother me as much as not becoming a lawyer at all.

Re: 3.93/150
bro you're being incredibly arrogant. Maybe not admissions, but do you not see how dyslexia or something would hinder your ability as a lawyer? Or even during scanning thousands and thousands of pages of cases in school? You can't get above a 150, its not right for you.hunt godlink wrote:I have not. Even if I have a learning disability, I don't think it's going to make that big of an impact in terms of law school admissions.Brut wrote:so you haven't been tested for any learning disabilities/disorders? dyslexia and such?

no, i'm not questioning whether you're bad at standardized testinghunt godlink wrote:English was my second language. However, I'm not an ESL student.Brut wrote:you mentioned you're a first generation immigrant

Everyone here simply seems to be calling bull shit on the fact that some people are just bad at standardized testing.
i'm trying to understand why you're bad at standardized testing
you clearly have had academic success despite your reading problems
i think you should consider getting tested for learning disorders, as i suspect you're not reaching your full potential
