165/3.3 URM, What Are My Chances?
Hey Everyone,
My name is Jose, I graduated from the University of Rochester last year with a degree in political science. I have scored a 165 on the LSAT, and Im looking to apply to law schools, and am wondering where my best shot is. I am a NY resident, and am URM.
My experience other than academics has been one year of teach for America, and an internship at the Monroe County's DA's office. As well as an internship at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, and a volunteer police officer for about four years.
Let me know where you guys think my best bet is. Thanks for your time.

Are you African-American, Native American, Puerto Rican, or Mexican-American? If one of the first two, apply to the T14 minus probably Yale. If one of the second two, retake the LSAT for a 168+ score, and then do the same.

Yeah but you're part Haitian, so you are the oppressor. Def. not URM as far as LS ad coms are concerned.JamesBond007 wrote:Dominicans seriously arent considered URM??? Wasnt too long ago that the Dominican Republic was ruled by Haiti....

"Dominican" is a very nebulous racial grouping. Think about it this way, if you check the "African-American" box, what would your argument be to a C&F committee? If you can say "Oh, yeah, my great-grandmother was literally born in Africa" you should probably check the box. If your argument is "duuuude, human civilization started in Africa so technically aren't we all Africans?" then probably not.

When you say 1 year of TFA, do you mean you quit before your two years were up? Or do you mean you'll be applying in the middle of your TFA commitment? (Quitting before your two years will likely look very bad - most ad comms and law firms know it's a two-year commitment.)
Also, retake. 3.3/165 has you under both medians at most schools in the top 20. A few more points on the LSAT would go a long, long way.
