3.88, 165, URM*

Postby BA414 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 2:13 pm

Hi all,

I'm a reverse splitter with a 3.88 LSAC GPA, 165 LSAT, and URM*. I'm assuming law schools consider Cuban-Americans URM; I know there has been a long debate about this, but let's pretend they do. Above average softs, kick-ass work experience, and compelling PS/DS. What are my chances at the following schools? Please don't tell me "retake," as that may be an option for next cycle if I'm not happy. It's OK if you don't consider me a URM in your calculations (although I can't imagine why Cubans wouldn't be included in this category).

Yale
Harvard
Stanford
Chicago
Columbia
NYU
Penn
Virginia
Georgetown
Northwestern
Berkeley
UCLA
Duke
GWU
Vandy

Thanks for your help.

TCR is retake, you have a HYS GPA- why would you waist it on paying sticker at Georgetown?

Schools designate African American, Mexican America, American Indian, and Puerto Rican as URM for admission purposes, as far as I know.

Yeah man, Los Cubanos are excluded from URM standing I believe.

However, you may have noticed while applying, once you check latino/hispanic, some apps ask for specification and others do not. I'm uncertain if that means you get the URM status or not though on the ones that don't ask for you to specify.

Most the T14 schools ask for specificity though, although I know for a fact that this year Harvard and NYU did not.

edit: Also, you should probably retake. 170 3.8 Cuban is a much better look regardless of URM standing or not. You'll get into some of those schools for sure this cycle, but if you had a 170, the ones that let you in this year would be substantial cheaper next year with improved LSAT.

Its very unlikely Cubans are underrepresented to the extent MA/PR/NA/AAs are.

At the point where your best option right now is ED UVA, you should definitely retake.

Cubans aren't considered URM for law school purposes. I would say apply Penn on down you will probably get at least a couple. I'm not saying retake since you asked us not to, but you should know that a 5 point improvement could put you is H or S territory. Good luck.
