165/3.56

Post by inlovewithpiper » Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:56 am

Hi guys,

Before you send me packing to mylsn.info or another predictor site, I want you to know I have used them extensively and they are giving me (what I believe to be) contradictory advice based on everything I've read on TLS. That being said, I thought a thread with some actual humans would be helpful for me.

Stats:
162 | June 2013
165 | December 2013
LSDAS GPA | 3.56
Non-URM | Although I am both Native Hawaiian and a member of LGBT, I am given to understand that neither provides a "hard" URM-bump.

Softs:
Two years volunteer work with ethnic minorities/new immigrants in my community
Associate Justice on Campus Judicial Board (Student Government Association) all 4 years of undergrad
A variety of undergraduate work experiences with well-known companies (Expedia/Hotels.com & JP Morgan Chase)

Diversity Statement | Written about growing up to a 17 year-old mother (poor socioeconomic circumstances) and I believe to be quite compelling.
Personal Statement | Written about the death of my grandmother and its effect on me. Written in mostly narrative form (I can PM this if you want to read) and, based on many reviews and edits, I believe this to be a very high-caliber piece of writing.

School List:

Super-reaches | Columbia, NYU, UPenn
Reaches | Northwestern, Cornell, Georgetown
Mild-reaches/Targets | UT Austin, Vanderbilt
Targets | WashUMO, Minnesota

What do you guys think? (PS - I know I need to re-take. I am considering that already. Right now I just want to focus on what I could do with what I have, but a 3rd re-take is definitely an option.)

Any mid-to-large market is fine, but preferably NYC or SF.

Where do you have ties? You aren't getting NYC or SF from WashU or UMinn (if you get in).

I'm from/family all in Southwest MO, so StL is actually the closest place with "ties."

But the goal here is getting out of the midwest, not getting stuck in it. Like I said, I am already seriously considering a June retake.

PS - Thoughts on Fordham for NYC?
