Full ride from a Tier 4. Chances they drop their stips?

Has anyone had success doing this? I basically told them about another scholarship from a stronger school and acceptance at the strongest TT in the regional market and asked to get the stips removed completely. Chances they actually do?

Maybe, maybe not

Aren't all Florida TTTTs huge dumpster fires though?

Even UF/FSU probably isn't worth it without a substantial scholarship.

Pretty much. But I'd literally get out of school debt free. Half of this school's grads didn't get legal jobs but feel like anytime you have a chance to go to law school for free with no strings attached you gotta think about it. I won't go there though under no circumstances if they don't drop the brutal ass top 30 percent stip

Debt free doesn't matter when you've spent 3 years of your life and have nothing to show for it.

This. That's three years of forgone salary from getting a job. So while it is in fact not debt it is still money you would have otherwise. Also cost of living isn't free so if you are taking on that by yourself and don't have savings to cover it then the money has to come from somewhere, i.e. loans.

Just because something is free doesn't mean it's worth it.

UF/FSU with at least some scholarship or Miami for free are the only options you should consider in Florida.

I wouldn't touch Nova, Stetson, Barry, Coastal, A&M, St. Thomas, Ave Maria or FIU even for free. MAYBE Stetson if you were dead set on a low paying job in Tampa.

A scholarship at UF/FSU requires a 162+ with a median GPA. That isn't hard, OP. You can easily do that with a year off.

EDIT:

Just searched your history. You have a 3.8 and are considering a T4? Jesus christ OP. Retake.

Retake. Don't ruin your life because you don't want to study.

Seriously, it blows my mind. "I don't want to study to take the LSAT again."

What exactly do these people think law school entails? Studying for the LSAT is a joke compared to studying for an exam.

Chances are if there's a top 30% stip, they're giving that scholarship to at least 35-40% of the entering class. If they removed the stip for you, there's no telling how many people they'd have to do it for. I doubt it happens. Just retake.

edit: my estimation is probably wrong. Maybe only 25%-30%. Moral of the story is that a large portion of the class will get that scholarship and a large portion of them must lose it for the school to remain economically stable.

Yeah, I got a scholarship at FSU with at 160. It's definitely doable.

I really think for Florida it's T14/Vanderbilt/UF or FSU/don't go.

The only reason to go to law school is to get a job practicing law. Just because you can go to a terrible school with horrid employment stats for free, doesn't mean that you should waste your time and effort. Put that time and effort into building a different career.

Not to mention that having a JD can make you unattractive to other employers. It isn't a net positive.

Miami for free if you speak Spanish and want to work in Miami is reasonable.

So do you think if I start studying for the lsat again I'll be able to pull off a ten point increase by June/October? I'm starting to gain interest in Northwestern's two year program. I see the 75th gpa is right where I'm at and I'd need ten points more on the lsat to get to their 25th percentile. And I think my work experience in government can stand out to them

There's no reason not to try.

Exactly. If you can't get yourself to a position where going to law school makes sense, then you shouldn't go to law school. This isn't intended to be elitist or snobby, it's just to help you avoid ruining your life.

I sometimes roll my eyes when people go "dude, just retake and break into the 170s." Not everyone is capable of being the top 1% of test takers. However, I think virtually everyone who graduated from a decent college with a not horrible GPA should be capable of breaking into the 160s with consistent practice.

If your goal is small law or state/local government in Florida, UF or FSU with in-state tuition and a scholarship isn't a bad deal.

I agree. Not everyone can score 170, but I'd say almost everyone can break into the 160s. It won't be as easy for some as it is for others, but you have to keep working. Its worth it, it will impact the rest of your life.

AVE MARIA LAW IS ONE OF THE WORST LAW SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY.

DEAN A'FIELD IS A THE BIGGEST ASSHOLE ON THE PLANET. FOR A GUY THAT WENT TO COLUMBIA HE GIVES THE SCHOOL A BAD NAME.

THE DEAN OF STUDENTS IS A NON-EDUCATED HICK WHO PROBABLY GOT THE JOB BY SLEEPING WITH THE DEAN, AND SHE WALKS AROUND THINKING SHE HAS POWER. THIS IS DEAN CASTRO.

THE PROFESSORS THAT ARE LEFT ARE PROBABLY THE ONLY GOOD THING LEFT THAT THIS INSTITUTION HAS ASIDE FROM DEAN DOBRANSKI.

THE WORST OF ALL, THE DEAN CHECKS THE GRADES BEFORE THEY ARE POSTED...90% OF THE TIME HE CHANGES THEM.

THERE IS OVER $3MILLLION WORTH OF MATERIAL THAT IS COPYWRIGHTEN THAT AVE HAS NOT PAID FOR.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FUTURE...DO NOT COME HERE.
