Re: Really want Columbia 174, 3.75+
You're already a lock for Columbia, probably even with some money.
If you raise that 3.75 to a 3.8 or add a point or two to your LSAT, I'd say you're in contention for Harvard.

Do not ED to Columbia, and do not retake. You're good for Columbia, probably with merit aid included.

You're above both medians dood. You'll likely get solid $ at C.Gary wrote:Thanks for the advice. Resist it. You'd be giving up tens of thousands of dollars. And if you got into H (likely), you'd have to turn it down.Gary wrote:Thanks for the advice. This. Don't ED. Apply to the T6 and you'll likely get into at least Columbia and NYU, but very possibly also H.paglababa wrote:Do not ED to Columbia, and do not retake. You're good for Columbia, probably with merit aid included.

You are a strong contender for a Butler (half tuition scholarship) at CLS. Some people with strong numbers dont get in every year, but once you're above the 75th, its not the score thats keeping you out.
As others have mentioned, you'd be throwing away cash by EDing.
It's a great school and you should definitely be in. Hit H too for sure and see what merit aid rolls in, but honestly unless you are committed gov work or a federal clerkship, the money at Columbia is the best way to go. You'll have the same shot at the prestigious vault firms in NYC with half the repayment.

Furthermore, it's silly to ignore NYU in this analysis. Not only will you definitely get in, you'll likely get a very large amount of scholarship money as well.

You are a lock at CLS.
Work on dat PS doe. The only thing that could hold you back is an extra weak application.

If you're bringing that kind of thunder on PTs don't turn down a retake just because you are a near lock for admission. An extra couple points makes the Hamilton at Columbia a possibility, and increases the chances of a Butler if you miss the Hamilton.

I'm enjoying the virulent pro-Columbia trolling in this thread
I agree with Tiago, I would retake if you have some solid evidence that you can knock it out of the park. There's not really any downside but could be some really solid upside.

Re: Really want Columbia 174, 3.75+
I don't know for certain but Columbia tends to make decisions very late relative to other schools, with the first RD batch coming back at the end of January. Given this I doubt a December retake will cause problems.Gary wrote:sorry to ask again but just wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge of this? if it doesn't have any impact then i'll apply today and retake in december.Gary wrote:So if I apply now with my current score and also register for the December LSAT, will that make schools hesitate on making a decision on me? Re: Really want Columbia 174, 3.75+
Early january applications wont be first wave, which is when most of the Hamilton/Butler are released. I would apply now and say you are retaking in dec. they will admit you for the initial round, and if you score 177+, tag you for Hamilton before sending out the acceptances.Tiago Splitter wrote:I don't know for certain but Columbia tends to make decisions very late relative to other schools, with the first RD batch coming back at the end of January. I think applying now > applying in January, unless you score higher. Are you confident in your skills?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
