what are my chances? 2.6 GPA/177 LSAT score

Postby tiffanyrussell10 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 8:33 am

I have the option of graduating either this coming May 2014 or May 2015. I am tempted to graduate May 2015, because then I can change my major now (In '13) to business which is better than my liberal arts major. My gpa now is 2.6, because I have had some healthproblems, but I did take the LSAT and earn a 177 on it. If I stay in school a year longer I can boost my gpa to a 2.8-3.0.

So which situation would suit me better?

1). Graduating this May 2014, with a BA with a 2.6 gpa and 177
2). Graduating May 2015, with a BS in Business with a 2.8-3.0 gpa and 177

(Keep in mind if I opt for #2 I have been in undergrad straight for about 10 years with all work experience being in undergrad).

So which of the two is better? and If I do decide on #2 with a gpa raised to 2.8-3.0 and 177 score and I apply October 2014, will there be any Top 15-Top 50 schools that will accept me if I don't have work experience post graduation? Since It has all been in all the years of school?

Also, I shall ask too, has anyone with a high LSAT score and average gpa (2.6 (with potential to raise 2.8-3.0))/177 score been accepted without meaningful work experience after undergrad?

You're basically a lock for Northwestern with those numbers. Everywhere else in the T-14 you're a likely reject.

I would say the situation depends on whether you can raise the GPA to a 2.8 or a 3.0. The difference in results between a 2.6 and a 2.8 will probably not be significant; hitting a 3.0 or higher would very likely get you in at more T14s.

Are you able to get a REAL job if you graduate this year? I would say that would be better than undergrad for your (11th?) year. Having work experience will help in your NU application.

Oh my god stay in school as long as possible and raise your GPA. WTH. That is worth more than all the $ you would use. In 2 years, you could completely change your GPA. Don't make the terrible mistake of graduating before you have to as a super splitter. You could be in at CLS/NYU or $ at lower T13s if you hit near 3.5.

I don't know if 3.5 is a possibility unless he wants to go to UG for a second decade (just based on the number of credits already accumulated).

OP can you address this? Also, are you interested in WUSTL'IN?

It seems like OP has done 3 years already.

Doing two more years and getting straight As and then applying would put him at around a 3.2

Doing two more years and getting straight As and then applying would put him at around a 3.2... which just makes him more likely to get waitlisted at NU and doesn't improve his chances anywhere else.

Okay its too late for a 3.5 but 3.0+ is definitely doable and that puts OP in the running for a lot of shit. Also massive upward grade trajectory (assuming the illness issue is corrected).

Eh, work experience still comes into play, although I agree an admission is likely, a lock is a stretch.
