3.7/175 Asian non URM HSCCN?

Postby Ninjaturtle77 » Tue Jul 02, 2013 8:24 am

In advance, thank you for any help you can give me or taking time to read this! This is my first time posting so here it goes.

I'm a rising junior projecting graduating with 3.7 (which puts me at exactly the 75th percentile against my classmates, if that helps), 175 (June 2013) from Georgetown, international political economy major. I checked the LSGPA guidelines, and I believe both my school and LSGPA will be the same. Asian, non URM. For softs, I'm aiming during my junior summer to land an analyst program in either financial consulting or IB, if that helps (fingers crossed!) and leverage that for a first job in financial services, and I believe I can get at least one stellar recommendation. I'm trying to figure out if (1) I have a shot at harvard and (2) if i should apply to HSCCN (I know I'm unlikely for Yale but will definitely apply regardless, just don't want to waste everyone's time!) right after graduation, or 2 years out.

Thanks again!

Already looked there, but its search function doesn't account for applying x years after college, and most of the admissions websites show a large majority of incoming classes have work experience. Also, there were very few data points to go off of if I remember correctly.

But if I restrict LSAT to 175, I get this:

Should I not be restricting range to exactly my score?

You extend it to your score range to get more data points. Generally, if you're over the 75th there won't be a significant difference.

you are too young to be thinking about law school...

go work in consulting for 2 yrs and apply then. Your WE will help separate you from your GPA for Harvard. I think you have a respectable chance once you've distanced yourself. LAw school isn't going anywhere, and neither is that LSAT score (as long as you apply within 5 yrs, and I'm suggesting 3).

FWIW, CCN is in the bag already unless you tank your GPA.

Also, in several years when the time actually comes to apply to LS, you might want to attempt a little more anonymity; anyone reading your post could figure out EXACTLY who you are in admissions, for whatever that's worth to you.

That Harvard GPA floor has really softened up over the past few years. Keep removing the older cycles from the search and the odds keep getting better (yes, I know this means less datapoints).

With that said, I agree with jbagelboy in that you should consider working in either consulting or IB for a few years if you have those options. It will make you a more attractive candidate both for admission and for employment.
