176 3.03

Postby Clearly » Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:47 am

PLEASE Don't quote or mention specific numbers, I'm going to edit later! Thank you!

176 // 3.03

I was previously a 2.8, but managed to get my gpa up just barely over 3. My plan as a 2.8 176 was Uva or NU. Does crossing the 3 threshold open up any new school options for me, or is it basically just improving my chances at these two? Would an ED long shot to CCN or P stand a chance?

Thanks in advance

CCNP is probably out. I think Georgetown and Mich are also possibilities. I would apply early RD, see if you can crack one of the lower T14's, and if things are looking bad by late January (should hear back from NW by then), ED UVA.

same gpa here, and unfortunately it seems anything above 171 is basically the same when your gpa is that low. as long as you have WE you're in at NU, but you can ED upenn or UVA with very high success also if you'd prefer one of those over NU with $. also FWIW i have a 173 and i know another guy attending with a 177/3.0 got the same scholly $ as me (and the rest of us in the sub 3.2 / 171+ category). I think to get any real benefit from anything over 171 you have to have a much stronger GPA than ours :|

100% of people that applied ED to UPenn have got it, its practically guaranteed

If this helps anyone formulate their answer, here's an LSN chart of a very tight band around my numbers, so small sample sizes.

It really comes down to NU or UVA, whichever you prefer. I chose NU

You can follow my lsn (same as my tls). Similar numbers. Little lower than 3.1 gpa.

I'm still waiting but it should give you an idea before you apply.

Fyi i didn't get penn ED but i do have a good feeling about the waitlist. There was a 3.4 176 who didn't either. I think 2nd round ED might have to do with it but I'm not sure.

Lol that one person was back in 2008 too. And OP you're dealing with small sample sizes here. I'm guessing that most 3.0's don't bother EDing to Penn, but I could be wrong. You could always ED Penn first and then ED UVA as a backup plan.

I ED'ed Penn and got it. 172/3.01. If you look at the LSN graph from this cycle, I'm the green dot closest to the bottom, heh.

And so the question remains. If you were me, what's your personal application strategy with the goal of maximizing biglaw potential. Where/if you would ED, where you would apply, and what you think the outcome would be. Thanks for the input so far!

I'd ED Columbia -> ED2 Penn -> UVA, personally.

Besides that, I'd blanket the T14 minus HYS.

Don't ED anywhere. Applications keep falling and you might be able to get some scholarship money. In this sellers market, you'll get T14 anyway.

Thats why I'd use the ED for a long shot, CCN or more likely P. I wouldn't ED UVA, and I wouldn't get the $$ED NU, so its either use the ED for a stretch I'd be ok with at sticker, or just not use it and count on some change from NU or at least an admit.

CNN, let alone Penn at sticker, aren't really worth turning down potentially decent money at the lower T14.

You'd take NU at $20k off over CC at sticker?

No but I might take 30-45k depending on other circumstances. And I'd take NU +20 over Penn.

This guy got 30 at NU and 60 at Gtown. http://lawschoolnumbers.com/edburke

I don't know about recently, but historically ED at CCN isn't a huge boost anyway.

That guy's a veteran.

But yeah, I probably wouldn't ED initially. With Penn and UVA offering ED later in the cycle as a backup, that's not necessary. See if you can crack the T14 without the ED first.

Yeah, I followed her cycle religiously as she was my numbers twin for a while. So the consensus is the 3.03 only solidifies my chances at schools I had a shot at as a 2.8 without opening any new options? (Aside from UVA, which was kind of a longshot but seems at least a decent chance now) C-C-N-P still out?

Thanks again, helpful as always.
