167 (163, 164), 3.66, non-URM, looking to use ANY ED

Post by jasonredranger » Mon Apr 22, 2013 8:06 pm

I know that I don't have much of a shot at the T-14, but as I'm able to pay sticker, I'm looking to use my ED - would this have any effect on admissions to Georgetown, or even UCLA, next cycle? Do I have any shot at Cornell if I apply early? I'm only really concerned with attending the highest-ranked school I can possibly get into.

ED only helps if you are at or above one median. You will not be at any T14. The correct answer here if you really want to ED is retake and get a 169+ so you'll have ED options. Also, Cornell doesn't do ED, but it's possible you'll get in without it. For that reason, I wouldn't ED to any school.
Edit: since you may not be eligible for a 4th take yet just do Cornell EA and hope for the best.

No. You'll probably get in there. Apply broadly.

You will most likely be in at Cornell but paying sticker.

Not if you're doing one of the full-tuition ones like GW ED. Maybe if you're not you could.

If you were to give me a percentage chance at Cornell, what would it be?

Even if your parents are loaded and willing to pay for your law school, its honestly not WORTH them paying it at GULC even if they are bill & melinda. donate to charity. Maybe worth it at USC if you want to practice in LA and have ties although you might even get a small scholarship at USC.

Cornell would be worth it for your fam to pay sticker too but I thought they didnt have ED (?). Id give you a 40% shot at Cornell since your just below median. Definitely worth trying. Do you have any decent softs/WE? Do this if you can.

Otherwise you could get decent money from UMN but that might make it tough to practice where you would like.

Good luck!

This is just a ridiculous exaggeration. Georgetown is probably not in quite the same league as the rest of the T-14 and debt-financed sticker there is a bad idea, but if your parents are paying and you have no other T-14 options, it's not a horrible bet IMO.

I'm guessing you're in at Cornell at sticker. Apply early and you'll probably get it.

The only places you have a shot ED aren't worth sticker. Try Duke or Cornell, but don't expect much

I would never ask my parents to give 280,000 towards a less than half chance at a favorable outcome. Thats like asking them to buy a house in cash telling them ill most likely burn it down but refusing to buy fire insurance. Whats fun for the Windsor family at vegas shouldnt be a model for major life decisions, it just shows a lack of respect for your family and the hard work THEy put in to earn that money.
