163/3.98/Rhodes Scholar
Hey Everyone,
I was a Rhodes Scholar. GPA is good, but LSAT is lacking. Don't really want to take it again. What are my chances? I understand that it is late in the cycle as well.
Thanks!

Great GPA, solid soft but you're gonna hear retake over and over again and I would agree. If you haven't seen this put your numbers in http://www.mylsn.info/app_checker.php. (maybe at a point to your LSAT for Rhodes).
Are you URM? (under represented minority? ie African American, Mexican/Latin American or Native American)
By looking at your numbers I'm seeing you denied everywhere in T14 maybe hit a few waitlist (but probably not coming off). You're looking at 25 down which you would focus on regional schools where you would be interested in practicing.
But seriously, retake.

Re: 163/3.98/Rhodes Scholar
Definitely should retake, I think the person has a shot at a couple t14 since he is still a reverse splitter, and schools would like to mention they have a Rhodes scholar attending. Unless your happy with Cornell/Georgetown/northwestern I am not seeing any others being friendly... Maybe UVA will bite to keep their GPA medianAawaldrop wrote:Great GPA, solid soft but you're gonna hear retake over and over again and I would agree. I would retake with that GPA and Rhodes. Retake in June and/or October and apply early next year for a legendary cycle.

I think you could probably get UVA given your amazing gpa + soft, but it's still crazy not to retake since every point higher you can get is at least $10,000 in expected aid.

Deciding not to retake could cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Also OP look do some research on employment opportunities post graduation at these schools.
I agree OP will probably be accepted T14 but with how much it costs imo it's a no brainer to retake. Hit 170+ and you're looking at $$$$mmk33 wrote:I think you could probably get UVA given your amazing gpa + soft, but it's still crazy not to retake since every point higher you can get is at least $10,000 in expected aid.

I am a African American male. Some publications. Not sure how that helps.

+1. Shouldve mentioned that first . You will have a beautiful cycle with or without a retake. But, if you were to retake it definitely wouldn't hurt and would increase your chances for YS.gavinstevens wrote:Enjoy HYS.lopscholar wrote:I am a African American male. Numerous publications. EDIT: I thought I would add this so you could see why it really helps.

Okay that changes everything. You have a chance everywhere but a retake would give you even more chance at Yale and $$$lopscholar wrote:I am a African American male. Some publications. Not sure how that helps.

I call troll.
Someone who wins the Rhodes will be know the effect of race and publications on their admissions chances considering the institutional support that's needed to apply for the Rhodes.

I do know the effect of race, gender, and publications on the Rhodes process. However, I was unaware of those three on law school admissions. This is my first time on the site, and that's why I posted.Doorkeeper wrote:I call troll.

I'm calling troll, too. If that's not the case, OP, 3 extra points on the LSAT makes you a lock at H and S. 5-7 extra points gives you a very good shot at Yale or a full ride to CCN.
As it is, you'll probably get Harvard and significant money in the T14.

Re: 163/3.98/Rhodes Scholar
Wouldn't hurt to apply this year and see what comes of it (probably in somewhere at CCN, good chance of Harvard, who knows about Stanford or Yale).
Though, a retake will either up either your scholarship offer or your chance of getting into Yale

Apply to HYSCCN this year, prepare to retake while you wait.
Understand that Y is a very realistic outcome for you and re-evaluate after receiving acceptances/denials.
