Would it be worth it to apply to these schools? What are my chances?

Non-URM 3.7/170 just got into NYU (non ED).

There's no school you dont have a chance at.

Did they award you any scholarship money? And if not, do you still think it's worth it to go in light of the debt?

I'm just a 0L, but personally I'd go to NYU sticker over somewhere like UCLA (2/3rd scholly). The market is tough in California and NYC is where you'd want to be. Plus you can move from NYC to CA (presumably if you want to work here in future) and find great work as an NYU JD, but you can't really do vice versa with UCLA (or well...it'll just be tougher).

Yeah, good point. I'll have to see I guess. But the less debt the better with anything but the top 5 schools in my mind. Not too much more than the top 30% of graduating classes are getting the type of big firm jobs that take care of the debt at other schools. Unless the market improves by 2016. Dare to dream.

You'll get into Texas. You have a good chance at both Michigan and UCLA. If you're not admitted directly, you'll ride the WL. Berkeley is very unlikely.

You should apply to all the schools that you're considering applying to, as well as a couple of others. You would have a strong shot at GULC. You will probably end up on the WL at Duke. Stanford is extremely unlikely, but perhaps you can put together a compelling app and beat the odds. It's worth the app fee just to have no regrets in the future, in my opinion. Your odds at CLS are only slightly better, but you should apply anyway.

Other schools you should apply to are NYU, Cornell, and USC. Your odds at NYU are probably between 15-25%. You're essentially a lock at Cornell. If you want to practice in southern CA, you should look at USC; it has the same clout there as UCLA. You would be a lock at USC, possibly with good money.

Even if you're certain you wouldn't want to attend some of these schools, acceptances and scholarship offers could be very helpful in negotiating for more scholarship money from your preferred choices.

Might as well apply to NYU, Duke, Northwestern, and UVA. You have a low shot at being admitted to each, but there's a great chance of being WL.

If you apply to Columbia, you'll be WL.

Gotcha, Wormfather. I hadn't heard that actually. I talk to a few people from UT Austin all the time because I live in Austin, and they're really after big law so it has probably over-informed my take on it all. Truth be told, I don't want big law really either because I probably wouldn't enjoy the work. But it just seems like it's the only way to get out from under the debt if you don't get some good scholarship money.

I was under the impression that taking it more than 3 times looks bad. Otherwise I would because I was averaging in the low to mid 170s prior to the last one.
