165/3.6 help!

Postby sysuh » Thu Jan 03, 2013 12:33 am

Hey all,
Just got the LSAT score back-- what are my prospects people??

165 / 3.6 from Pepperdine University.

I'm thinking of applying to:

Berkeley
Notre Dame
University of Washington
George Washington
Boston University
Loyola Marymount
University of California Irvine

Should I have more reach schools/target schools/safety schools?

Thanks.

Berkeley- Rejected
Notre Dame- Waitlisted
University of Washington- Waitlisted
George Washington- Rejected
Boston University- Rejected
Loyola Marymount- Accepted
University of California Irvine- Accepted

Your list of schools is very geographically scattered. You should be focusing on the schools in the geographic area that you want to practice law in. Your list seems to be all East and West coast, so I'm going to assume you want to be on the coasts.

If you want to be in the northeast, I would consider applying to Boston College and Fordham.
If you want to be in the west, I would consider Davis and Hastings.

This being said, if you think you can squeeze a 2-3 more points out of the LSAT, I would consider waiting a year and retaking. If you got a 168, that would open up Michigan, Cornell, Georgetown, UCLA, and USC as definite possibilities.

Out at Berkeley, GWU, and BU. Maybe at ND.

And then with an LSAT just two measly points higher:

Note well how much your prospects would improve.

omgod. I seriously do not want to retake that test again. I know I for sure could have done better but my nerves got the best of me. I ran out of time for the RC and LG although on practice tests I would normally have at least 5 minutes to double check both those sections..... that being said, if I retook it, I dont know if my nerves would act up again and I would end up doing worse...

and yes, my schools are kind of all over the place because I'm not sure where I want to practice. I mainly want to get out of California and study in a city I would enjoy with a quality education...

There's no downside to doing worse except for the time and effort involved since schools take the highest score
