Looks like Northwestern is your best shot.

You will need to pray for Cornell, NU or UVA. The best school you are a lock for is UMN or GWU with $$$. Don't go to ASU or CU unless it's on a full ride and you absolutely want to work in one of those states.

I don't think apps would be totally wasted at UVA, Mich and Penn, but NU is probably the only place that will let you in.

What little data I could find bears this out as well. There are simply very few data points for splitters over a decade removed from undergrad with military service intervening. There are a few...but not enough to gather meaningful chances. I can see possibly sneaking into T14 and not getting in to schools in the bottom of tier 1 at the same time.

ED to UVA if you have your heart set on it, I think.

Eh the GPA is bad but you're going to outperform your numbers with military and non-trad. If you can afford apps you may snag someone in the t6.

Schools' reaction to the leg down in applications is a varibale, so these estimations come with a high margin of error, but I'd say:

Harvard
NYU
UC-Berkeley

--90/10 deny
UVA
--75/25 Deny
Michigan
Duke

--50/50 in
Northwestern
Cornell
UCLA
GWU

--In after waitlist, schollies possible
ASU
CU-Boulder
Utah

--In with large schollies

edit: UC-Berk and UCLA will be a little harder than their peers, as outlined above, because west coast schools like these care more about GPA. That could be counterbalanced if you have ties to the area.

I disagree. Military is one of the few legit softs and, as you said, you've distanced your GPA by 12 years. That makes you very unpredictable, but that 173 will help a lot and you should get into many of those schools. You should also consider Fordham, which also offers the yellow ribbon plus-up. You should PM this guy, who can provide far more details.

See? People are just straight looking at your numbers and ignoring military and non-trad. Blanket T-14 and strong regionals you're interested in.

I think I'll do exactly that. There are a few of the T14 that even have no application fees for military, which is quite nice!

H with a 2.7 just isn't going to happen. CCN is possible but you aren't the first military personal to apply to those schools and there are just no examples that would seem to indicate you have a chance. That being said, 12+ years out and military, maybe you will be the first.

Are you using the GI bill to pay for LS? If so, I would ED UVA. If your paying yourself, I'd apply widely.

I'd say that your odds of getting ino CCN are so low that it might not be worth delaying greener pastrues... cuz you might not even get in EDing UVA

GI Bill & Yellow Ribbon program, yes. At UVA, it'd be 100% tuition & fees + book stipend + housing allowance.

The first paragraph is almost exactly what I was thinking. The data give me almost no chance. Although my circumstance probably wouldn't have enough data points to provide a meaningful analysis, if I'm a Vegas odds guy I'm giving myself 10/1 at best for one of CCN. It just doesn't seem to justify the delay at UVA where I could be a 50 or 60% shot with ED early.

Yep, that's the way I'm starting to feel as I draw closer to application time.

Yeah, statistically you aren't 100% even with ED at UVA. With the costs covered, UVA is one hell of a great outcome at that price. I would ED from day 1.

Very little of the schools you mentioned will take you with that GPA.

Not really though bro. Sub 3 splitters routinely get T14 admissions. Plus OP appears like he may actually be a special snowflake. If he blankets CCN-GeorgeTTTown is be surprised if he didn't get 3 offers.

In your position, I think I'd ED the CCN school that I most preferred and then ED UVA if rejected. And definitely apply broadly. If you do ED UVA on day one I wouldn't bother applying anywhere else until you hear back because iirc they have a 15 day turnaround.

Best of luck, whatever you decide to do.

Throw up apps where you want. But again, your gpa is most likely going to prevent you from going to the majority of the schools you mentioned.
