You can retake the LSAT but not your 1L grades or your choice of 2L SA (if any).

I'll fully admit to the humblebrag. The bolded part is my general impression of the "what are my chances" threads - if you're close enough to the "cookie cutter" standard applicant in most regards, then your GPA/LSAT and the LSN site will tell you everything you need to know. But if you're way outside the norm, then you're probably not going to get many good predictions, here or anywhere else.moonman157 wrote:While there's very little that posters here can tell you that LSN can't, I empathize with them.
I'll probably still post one when the time comes, but realistically, how much statistical information is out there for 44-year old splitter applicants with engineering undergrad degrees, physics master's degrees, and twenty years of military service?

Yes, and although the flowchart says I'd be a good candidate for a "what are my chances" thread, I'm just acknowledging that there's not going to be a lot of statistical data out there from people who applied under similar circumstances.rad lulz wrote:Did you even read the sticky?ScottRiqui wrote:The bolded part is my general impression of the "what are my chances" threads - if you're close enough to the "cookie cutter" standard applicant in most regards, then your GPA/LSAT and the LSN site will tell you everything you need to know. The whole point of my post is that new threads have to shoot for a fairly small gap between "You're pretty much like everyone else on paper, so go to LSN for the best info" and "You're atypical to the point where you're not going to have any idea until you actually apply".

I'm not arguing that these threads can tell you much more than LSN can; LSN is still the go-to for predicting a cycle. My point is that, more than anything else, people want certainty with their scores. They've been waiting for a month, uncertain about what their options would be. Right now, they're freaking out because suddenly that picture became a lot clearer and they're hoping to get all the feedback they can about something that will affect the rest of their lives. They're not going to learn anything on TLS that LSN couldn't teach them (assuming that they are a standard applicant), but given everything they've just gone through, I say cut them some slack. If you don't like those threads, don't post in them.WhiteyCakes wrote:All of this is irrelevant to the fact that LSN is an entire website dedicated to "What are my chances"moonman157 wrote:This is one of the most important tests a lawyer will take in his/her life and the consequences of that simple score have an incredible bearing on one's life. What are my chances threads are part of the natural life cycle of TLS users. Yes it no longer applies to you, but if you don't want to be helpful and share what you learned in your own cycle then so be it, but don't complain about others doing so. The only real use of this entire site is LSAT prep > chances > application cycles > 1L grades > OCI > waste space in lounge
Ignore the threads you don't like.

It's not that he's a special snowflake. It's that he's a very non-traditional applicant that will benefit more from just statistical data whose sample group consists of applicants very unlike himself. Special snowflake is someone who thinks that the risk involved in going to law school doesn't apply to them. This isn't a case of special snowflake syndrome.

Have you seen the October Waiting thread, and how neurotic everyone is one this site about the LSAT? No, it's not PTSD, but it's a test that will affect the rest of your life. Again, these people have had to wait a month with uncertainty about what their score was, and ultimately what the rest of their lives would look like. You can't blame them for wanting a little certainty after their score. If it offends you so much, don't comment on those threads.

Really? I can extrapolate meaningful data for a GPA/LSAT range that has about 6 total applicants over the past two years? And also, I'm sure those people are in the same circumstances as me regarding interruption in education and work experience.CorkBoard wrote:A quick search on LSN could give him the majority of the answers he's looking for. The "chance" threads are a huge component of this site, especially for kids who are not TLS'ers and are trying to educate themselves.
