tell my future please 4.0/166

Postby prettykitty » Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:43 am

Hi guys, long-time lurker but taking the plunge. I've been through pages and pages of this board, and any and all input would be greatly appreciated--I can't stop having nightmares about rejection!

4.0 GPA, disappointing June LSAT at 166. I attend a large public university in the South and am pursuing 2 degrees as an undergrad. Letters of rec should be pretty awesome; PS shaping up well; softs are average or above (international internship experiences, lots of leadership experience in two student organizations, started a mentorship program for underprivileged kids in my college town, two jobs throughout college, including recruiting for TFA, and consistent volunteering). Non-URM.

I know I need to retake the LSAT; I was scoring 170-175 on all of my practice tests, and I think my test-day nerves truly got the best of me. The idea of studying again is seriously daunting, and I'm afraid of doing worse, but I would really like to get some scholarship money.

I am looking at T20 schools, in particular Yale (ha), Harvard, Duke, UVA, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and Cornell. Maybe Emory as a safety.

Thoughts? Am I being at all realistic? Thanks so much!

You're being realistic if you study for an October retake and wait to send in your apps until you get a higher scorer. That is your future and you're welcome.

Just go play around with numbers on LSN that's where all predictions come from. If I had to guess, I would say you have a pretty good shot at Berkeley. Maybe a shot at Gtown, UVA?, Cornell. I would retake for better security and more money though.

seems like this combined with your 4.0 could lead to a memorable/emotional PS if you put a lot of time into it.

With your background if you can pull up the LSAT to 170+ I would think the top schools you mentioned will definitely be within range.

As you know, you'll need a higher LSAT for most of the schools you mentioned. You're probably in at cornell, Vandy, and Emory now.

With that GPA the only discussion should be about how you will improve your LSAT score. Do it! Blanket Top 14. Good luck.

I foresee in your future... many people on TLS advising you to retake.

Retake.
Powerscore for logic games (hopefully your problem is logic games, easiest to fix).
Make a book of all the logical reasoning questions you got wrong, identify patterns as to why.
Reading comprehension - practice? IMO thats the hardest one to improve on. Just make sure you get through all the readings.
