Need help.....153 lsat, 3.82 gpa
Hey wanted to see what people think of my chances at a good law school.
got a 153 on the LSAT, I have a 3.82 from UCLA undergrad (graduated Cum Laude)
been out of school for 2 years (3 including this coming year) and I have worked full time as a legal assistant in a top IP firm.
Great letters of rec, extra curricular activies
cant retake, advice?

Just stop. You're going to regret it if you follow through with what you say.LAallday wrote:im applying with what i have (waste of good gpa, i know)

I would suggest waiting till you could retake, because a 3.8 is awesome. It is at or above ever schools 75th percentile outside the T20. However a 153 is below or around ever 25th percentile at every T1/TT.
Splitter cycles are hard to predict. Your should probably cast a wide net.
Here are your chances (roughly), based on LSN since 2006, at the top 100 schools:
http://myLSN.info/dispresults.php?usege ... d=Included
(LSAT 150-155) (GPA 3.75-3.85) (not including URMs)

Keep lurking TLS and you'll see.LAallday wrote:why?
Just think: Loads of debt from a shitty(er) school and shitty(er) job prospects. Say goodbye to boats and hoes.
In short, your GPA is T10 worthy with $. The only thing holding you back is your LSAT.
Stick your nose in an LSAT book and get crackin. This is not a "should I retake or not". You NEED to retake.

Nmop is right. The LSAT is beatable, and now that you found TLS, you have a much better chance of beating it.LAallday wrote:why?

OP: You should retake the LSAT for a fourth time. If determined to apply without a retake, then try Loyola & UC-Hastings since applications to law schools should decrease even further.
If your current law firm will hire you after law school, then there are plenty of Tier Two law schools that will take your money. Some Tier Ones may want your GPA, but they are likely to be located in the Midwest (Indiana, Illinois, Iowa & Minnesota) rather than in California.

Those law schools are not extreme longshots for a 153/3.82 with a few years of work experience. UC-Hastings is probably the most difficult among your listed schools.

You can ask a school you want to attend to petition to LSAC to allow you to take the LSAT a 4th time this October or December. I have heard of success stories with this, just call the admissions office of a few schools and one of them is bound to bite. With those numbers, you might get into a few top 100 schools, and will get decent scholarship offers at TTT/TTTT schools. Retaking is your best option.

That practice was terminated last year, if I recall correctly.

I think this has changed and OP would need to petition LSAC directly and they are far more strict about letting the fourth test go through. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.barestin wrote:You can ask a school you want to attend to petition to LSAC to allow you to take the LSAT a 4th time this October or December. OP, even if you need to wait two years to take you will still be far better off than applying with your LSAT. I know don't want to wait, but it is your best bet. This is coming from someone who started 1L at 31 so I know what it's like going to school as a non traditional, and even if you wait you'd be 26-27? Most people in my section were around that age. Plus you can work, save some money, and get into a school worth going to.
Remember, there is always time, and law school will always be there.

Yeah but even if OP gets in it will be at a price that is way too much. Op should wait two years and retake.CanadianWolf wrote:Those law schools are not extreme longshots for a 153/3.82 with a few years of work experience. UC-Hastings is probably the most difficult among your listed schools.
