170/3.93: Acceptance and $$$ Odds Please

Postby moneyball026 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:11 am

Went to Temple U in Philadelphia

My stats are 170/3.93, recs will be very good and essay should be decent, not spectacular.

Looking at NYU, Penn, Georgetown for sure, maybe Harvard and Columbia. Also will apply to GW, Fordham in hopes of getting $$$.

I'm new to the law school game and don't really know admissions well, so my question is what are my chances at those top schools I'm looking at, and which of any of the listed schools can I expect some chance at getting merit-based aid?

Thanks!

In at Penn & Georgetown. Strong chance at NYU, in my opinion.

There's just not much to add that you can't figure out by browsing through lawschoolnumbers. You're not a splitter and haven't mentioned being a URM or someone with crazy softs, so you should not expect anything out of the ordinary. You should blanket the T14, and you'll get in to most of them with money in the lower half. If you want to toss an app at Fordham or GW go for it, but you probably won't end up either of those places.

How much did you prep for the LSAT? How high were your practice tests? Get 3 more points on a retake, and you're in HYS / T-14 full ride territory.

With those numbers you will get some of CCN, you will get MVP with $$. Throw in apps for HYS just to see what happens.

In at Penn with $-$$, provided the essay is good. They're pickier toward the margins. NYU is a little more of a toss-up, but you'd probably get in there as well, albeit at sticker.

Harvard is doable with amazing softs. Not sure about Columbia. Either way, blanket CCN on down at the very least.

Likely waitlist at H so definitely worth a shot, try your luck at S and Y if you're a dreamer.

You should get at least two of CCN, Chicago could definitely give you some $$. I wouldn't bother applying to GWU or Fordham, MVP will give you enough schollies for leverage. I'm not sure how much you know about the legal market, but where you go has a huge effect on your likelihood of securing employment after graduating, so even if you want to live in NY one day it's much better to go to UMich than Fordham.

i was 171/3.89, now class of 2013 at CLS, so applied during a much more competitive year, so i think you have a good shot at CCN on down. i was also admitted to NYU and chicago. i had a phone interview for harvard but inexplicably was not admitted, waitlisted at Y and S. nothing is out without your numbers. S is a possibility if you have good softs.

blanket t14, (fair to apply to GW/fordham as well definitely), but u should play the whole t14 game to look at ur $$ options. even if u know u dont want a certain region with ur #s ur gnna get scholarships all over the place in t14 and itd be useful to have as many as possible to play off each other for negotiations... good luck!
