3.85/167/Marine Officer

Postby airbud » Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:52 pm

3.85 from big state school in TX. Graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
167 on June 2012 test. This is within my range in the few weeks preceding the test.

Currently a 1stLt in the Marine Corps. One deployment to Afghanistan down, one more deployment floating around east Asia on a ship to go. Will have 4.5 years in and pick up Capt by the time I matriculate into whatever school.

I'm married and have a 7-month-old son. I'm a white male.

Goals: would be thrilled with UT. Want to work in Texas long-term.

Retaking IS an option, but of course not an easy one: 167 was my avg pre-test, point deductions were even across each section, there's a chance I could drop if I get a bad game or something, starting to work insane hours as we get ready for the next deployment = less and less prep time, getting back into crazy study mode is a massive toll on wife/son/work.

So there it is. Let me know what yall think. Thanks so much!

UT is probably in the bag for you with your numbers and soft factors so congrats!

In at UT w/ money. That's *the* place to go if you want Texas, obviously, so congratulations are in order.

1. Thanks for your service.
2. Check out the veterans forum on TLS for some info that you will likely find helpful.
3. I think Texas will give you full-tuition, if you are a TX resident with honorable discharge (double check, though).
4. Go on the VA website and look at schools with good GI Bill matching (Mich, Cornell, etc.). It may be worth throwing in apps to T14s just to see if any bite.

Thanks a lot, guys. Extremely helpful. I need to know I'm headed in the right direction so I'm not screwing my family...what I have in the Marines is a good thing, but not what I want long-term. Already missed my son's birth...don't want to keep missing things!

Congratulations on the great score. And more importantly (and I don't mean to be corny) thank you for your service. My best friend served in Afghanistan and the things that you guys have to go through are unreal. Good luck
