If you want biglaw anywhere but NYC, your best bet is Northwestern and Chi biglawkwwill3 wrote:I am 2nd year TFA corps member applying to law school this fall. Here are the schools I am most interested in.
Northwestern
Chicago
Texas
UVA
Duke
UGA (safety)
I am interested in big law, hoping to work anywhere but nyc. Would prefer to be in texas. No ties though. Have excellent softs from ug: president of a large org, multiple elected positions etc. What are my chances? Thanks!

Virginia is highly likely to admit you if you apply ED. Geogia should be almost a certainty. Duke seems to have a GPA floor of 3.5 GPA. What is your LSAC GPA ?

Time to check http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com for Duke Law School.
P.S. One applicant 3-4 years out of college with a 170/3.36 was accepted by Duke Law. So there should be many others as participation on lawschoolnumbers.com is just a very small percentage of applicants.. Your work experience with TFA could make a very positive impact.

Texas is limited to a certain percentage of non-residents, but you should be quite competitive for one of those spots. Northwestern usually offers application fee waivers to TFA alumni/participants.

You basically have no choice but UT then. You won't get Texas biglaw from a non HYS non UT school without Texas ties unless you have very high grades.kwwill3 wrote:I am 2nd year TFA corps member applying to law school this fall. Here are the schools I am most interested in.

@brucewayne texas would be my top choice but chi or atl would be ok as well. Concerned that my gpa is too low for texas being that I am an out of stater.

I'm 3.4/170 with about as good softs. I got Penn (where I'm attending), UVA, and Georgetown RD. I think you should be fine for UVA EDing, but you won't entirely strike out if you roll the dice RDing for UVA. Retaking for some $$$ (see a number of more extreme 3.4-3.6 splitters) if you think you can do better isn't a horrible idea (and something I wish I did).

Texas is not as long of a shot as you might think. I predict you would get in.

UVA gives 1/2 scholarships to TFA alum. I would just RD but get it in early and look for that, then use it for leverage at other schools you get into as well.justicefishy wrote:I'm 3.4/170 with about as good softs.
