#1 in small class at a T4, chances at T14?

Ranked #1 in both fall and spring semesters at a provisionally accredited school. However, we have a very small class size, which I am not sure if it is published in our letters of good standing which is sent out. LSAT 161, below average undergrad GPA, USMC veteran, and currently interning at one of the top IP firms in Tokyo.

Applied to Santa Clara, GWU, Boalt, Columbia, and SLS. I want to concentrate specifically on IP law, and I am eligible to sit for the PatBar.

Got acceptance from GWU, so I'm wondering what my chances would be at the other schools? Santa Clara is not longer a consideration unless they provide a LOT of money, but even then, I think I'd take GWU over Santa Clara just due to the ranking/prestige/alumni connections.

Why did you not apply to more top schools? Other than at SLS (and maybe one or two others), your UG grades and LSAT are largely irrelevant at this point. You have a shot at just about any school in the country, although they're no slam dunks.

If you want IP, SLS, Boalt and GWU are great choices, but I would have blanketed the entire T14 plus UCLA, USC, Texas, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Fordham, WUSTL, and U-Washington.

Is there a limit to the number of transfer schools to which you can apply? The dearth of names on your list tells me that you're going to be left wondering, "What if...?".

This,

and do you still have the Post 911 GI Bill? If you do there are a LOT of schools you can still do for free.

Most of the T14 has a deadline of 7/1. If you hurry, you can get your applications in on time. I think most, if not all, allow some extra time for the completion of other application materials (letters of good standing, etc.)

I'm only going for IP schools, and well, I could apply to more, but I have no real desire to go to certain places. I've read so much that applying to T14 schools, coming from a T4, is almost impossible. I really don't have time to adapt my essay to each and every school I'm applying to since I'm currently quite busy w/ the abroad program and internship. However, if there is a chance, I'll fire off apps to Yale and Harvard as well. NYU is ready to be sent though.

I also have a seat deposit deadline of July 6 for GWU, and my dean's certification is only now being sent out since we JUST got our final ranks today. Not sure how much time I have left before I have to decide.

Are personal statements really that important?

I was a reservist, so I don't think I qualify since I'm completely done w/ my contract now. I'll have to ask the VA dept of my school once I'm there.

Your title is fairly misleading. You're really asking about T6 + Berkeley. I think you're being more than a little silly with your focus on "IP" schools.

There's no such thing. Wouldn't you rather go to a T14 that's not as good as Boalt for PI than your current school? If so, apply broadly.

How did you do at PLIP preselects? Your focus should be on IP employers that do OCI at various schools.

PLIP?

As far as "IP" schools, I mostly looked at curriculum offered and faculty who specialize in IP. I am also particular about my living environment, so some schools are automatically out due to that. As silly as it sounds, it does matter a lot to me.

I have a very small and narrow focus, practicing IP in asia (Taiwan or Japan), so my main concern is preparing for this. I'll be studying for the PatBar starting next month as well.

I am also very limited on funds, with this summer sapping most of my funding, so I can't really afford to apply to that many schools. I have my safety school, and a select few above that which I have researched and concluded that they were good choices based on faculty, courses offered, and alumni/programs in Asia.

Well, I sent in my NYU app. I think this will be it for apps. I considered UCI, but there's little to no potential for me with that school. I'm already ecstatic at getting into GWU from a provisionally accredited Tier 4 school.

All of your AD time in the reserve will count. Depending on how much time you have in training and or deployments it could add up. (That is a recent change that title 32 time counts the same as title 10 now. It is the change that allowed me to pay for LS.)

I think you would need years of active time to get all of it but it is worth looking into. The reason I asked was some schools will cover you at 100% if you have it.

Regardless, GWU is a great school so enjoy.
