Being a PR male is not as helpful as being NA/AA, sorry to say. Use Lawschoolnumbers, and figure that the on-the-fence area, you're probably in with no money.

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say Georgetown or Cornell.

165+/3.6 URM will give you a shot at T14. Its really hard to say without an exact number. Good luck on the LSAT!

If you do manage to crack 165+, consider applying to T30s and other Tier 1 schools. You would likely get close to a full ride somewhere fairly reputable.

As far as I know, after HYS, it mostly comes down to merit, not need based, aid.

Thank you very much.

Well I'll definitely be back here in July when I get my first score. Is it worth going to a T14 like Cornell or Georgetown at sticker price over a T30 like Washington or Arizona State with significant scholarship money? Would it be worth it just to get biglaw?

Yeah that's what I thought too. And really... wouldn't an LSAT score high enough to get me a full ride to a lower T14 give me a decent shot at HYS anyway?

Allow me to offer a personal anecdote.

I will be attending a school in the T25 in the fall. I am an extream splitter at every school outside the T20 (below the 25th percentile gpa/above the 75th percentile lsat). I am also a Mexican American. You will be in a lot better shape than me because you didnt F up your undergrad.

Anyway, I did not get into any T14 i applied to. I didnt get into UT either. Despite not cracking the T14, I was awarded a 100k scholarship presumably because im a minority with a legit lsat. If I had gotten into a T14, it would have been great to be able to leverage a 3/4th tuition scholarship against what would likely have been sticker for me.

While at admitted students weekend i met two very nice aspiring attorneys. The first was choosing between 3/4 scholarship at my T25 and sticker at cornell. He was undecided. The other was a young lady choosing between a 3/4 scholarship and sticker at Georgetown. She was also undecided. Neither were able to negotiate scholarships. Both were white.

They were both doing deep soal searching debating between 50k in debt and 200k+ debt. It will be interesting to see where they end up choosing. There really is no right answer. Its personal preference.

Harvard is probably more likely than Berkeley or Stanford, although that's not at all saying much. A 177 LSAT would put you above the 75th median at H, and while your GPA is definitely quite a bit below what even the 25th is, your URM status would make up for that. Shoot for H, assume you'll end up taking a nice piece of change from a T14.

DaRascal wrote:OK that's good advice. Well Northwestern is definitely my target school. Would EDing help my chances if I do end up scoring say mid-160 range? Also, don't people who get accepted ED to NU Law get a nice merit scholarship?

Northwestern ED is a full-ride merit based scholarship and if not selected, they place the applicant into RD.

NU pretty much requires work experience. And according to LSN, successful ED applicants usually have a 3.6+/172+. I don't know how your minority status factors in though.

With the scores you noted, and an ED, I’d try for the top half of the bottom T-14, perhaps Michigan and Duke. Even with an ED, probably a very long shot for PVB.

No. I'm sorry to be a buzzkill, but you need probably a 168 to have any shot at Northwestern or UVA, and you probably need a 170. ED doesn't get you in--what it really does is let the school know you are serious about going there (so it might give you a slight boost at UVA, but not at NU where all ED admits now get a full ride scholarship). Still apply to these schools, but they are not "target" schools if your LSAT score is 166.

URM, Bro...

URMs under both medians @ UVA this cycle:

155/ 3.7
161/3.6
161/3.4
162/3.5

Sure, it's definitly a reach. But it is in the realm of possibility.

Ahhh. my bad--missed that. In that case, a 166 and an ED probably gets you a pretty decent shot at both (but still not NU unless you have at least 1 year of work experience)

Wow. Really? OK so I'm guessing 166-67 is probably the place to be. I'm bringing my A game in June.

All of those URMs are black. You'll need a higher score as a Puerto Rican, although maybe not a 170.

After some searching I found one PR male with numbers like you anticipate having. Didn't go too well:

Here's a PR female with slightly lower numbers:

Do you think it hurt that guy that his application wasn't complete until January 1st? Seems like that was pretty late in the cycle to be applying. Maybe he took the October LSAT that year?
Also do you think it's possible his personal statement wasn't that good? He used "their" when he meant to use "there" in his Extracurricular Information section.

Haha yeah I saw that as well. Always tough to extrapolate from just one data point but unfortunately there aren't many Puerto Ricans on LSN. All you can do is shoot for a 180, make sure your app is polished and apply early.
