155 3.1 GPA

Postby juslaxyn22 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:21 pm

LSAT 155
GPA 3.1
Graduated May 2011 and took job at Booz Allen Hamilton and have a great letter of recommendation from my boss

What do you think my chances are at Miami, Loyola Marymount and Florida State?

Also any other schools worth applying? Appreciate any input!

Don't go to any of the Florida TTTs. How long did you study for the lsat?

Your chances arent good at Miami or FSU, dont go to Loyola-Marymount.

My 1st advice? Retake. If that isnt an option then go somewhere close to home where your chances of acceptance are greater (especially if there is a state school in whichever state you reside). You can apply to UM or FSU, but your chances are very slim. If you are a URM then that might help, otherwise you'll have to retake to have a shot at UM or FSU. And again, don't go to Marymount.

If you want to be an attorney, then go to law school. You'll just need to retake. Keep in mind that there is no hurry, especially since you already have a solid job.

You'll almost certainly be admitted to Miami with your numbers since you have a year of work experience. Your LSAT is fine for Miami, but your GPA should be above 3.2. Nevertheless, you'll be admitted because of your work experience. The better advice, however, is to stay at your job. If you attend law school at night part-time, will your employer pay for tuition, fees & books ? Or do you have to travel too much for work to consider that option ?

FSU seems to want a minimum 159 LSAT. Loyola Marymount is possible, but unlikely unless applications are down significantly.

With both numbers below the 25th percentile? I definitely wouldnt say he will "certainly be admitted". OP, I'm being honest with you, it is unlikely. But it cant hurt to apply.

lawschoolnumbers.com Miami is likely in light of your work experience.

He's more likely to be a WL than an Admit... but hey, you never know.

Applications are down this year. According to lawschoolnumbers.com participants all 155s with a 3.3 or above were admitted. A year or more of work experience, especially with good recommendations, should more than compensate for OP's 3.1 GPA.

There does seem to be an abrupt line though (I'm looking at the same graph you are). You'll see that its pretty much right at 3.3 that they start dinging. I guess it depends on how strong his softs are.

Thanks everyone appreciate all the input.

I talked with the head of admissions at one of the schools I am on the edge and she advised to take it in June and hope that i can be pushed of the wait list. I'm thinking its worth a shot so I'm going to study some more and hopefully can get towards 160 as that is what I was PTing around.

Booz is great but luckily this ones on the parents dime so why not chase the dream…..

Chase the dream wisely even if it is their dime.

The military is paying for my LS so I will have no debt at the end that I didn't start with. That said, even as an old man I will likely try next cycle to maximize the use of that free ride. If I connect on any of my hail marries this year, I will go. But most of the law schools I would get into without a retake would not help my long term career aspirations.

I could get into Miami but have no desire to live in S FL so they are out. Rutgers is a school I will likely get in and achieves my career goals but then, actually studying for the LSAT and going to Fordham, Vandy or CLS would be better in the long term. (Fordham is actually my top choice for various reasons and who know, maybe they will take me cycle......)

Unless your P's say this year or never, think about waiting unless of course you DO want to live in Miami then it is not such a bad choice.

Just my thoughts.

JC

+1 on everything he said...

Something to keep in mind is that anything outside of the T-14 is largely regional. So make sure you are ok living in the area where you eventually attend.
