Mexican, 3.65 UGPA 170 LSAT, BA, MS

Post by ForrestJL » Sun Feb 26, 2012 3:36 am

Mexican, Female, Texas resident, with undergraduate GPA of 3.65, 170 LSAT, and an MS Neuroscience 3.7 GPA. Two and a half years of work experience in clinical neuroscience research in London's Institute of Neurology and Baylor College of Medicine. Many years of volunteer work as Spanish interpreter for community clinics and volunteer work with CASA.

I'm looking to apply to SMU, UofH, and UT. Any thoughts on chances of getting in to these schools, and recommendations on which out-of-state schools to consider? Thanks!

You could potentially get into Harvard with these numbers.

You have a great chance at schools ranked much higher. Is money a big factor?
Money isn't a huge factor. Having said that, I think I'd be more interested in finding a school with a lower rank that would potentially offer a substantial scholarship, than a school with a higher rank not offering any money at all.

Are you even remotely interested in neuroscience, because I would stick with that...

That said, even if you don't go to Harvard you can probably go somewhere still in the T14 with a good scholarship. (Not UT)

Get a full ride from UT or go somewhere better - but ONLY if you want to work in Texas.

Thank you all for the feedback. I love Neuroscience and by no means plan on leaving it behind. I'm seeking a law degree to be able to channel my science background into something different.

All of them? Yale's not happening with those numbers, but stranger things have happened. You have a fighting chance or better at every other school in the country.

Like what?

Law is a very specific field, and the market right now isn't optimal for branching out as much as one would like. What would you want to do with the law degree that you wouldn't be able to do with a phd or medical school?

Not criticizing your decision, just simply curious.
