4.13 LSDAS GPA / 155 LSAT

Post by MaxVonSydow » Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:07 pm

Graduated from UCSB 2 quarters early with a degree in Global Studies. My entire schooling before college was done abroad - in Karachi, Pakistan, in case anyone was wondering - and I included that fact in my LSAT score addendum (little to no emphasis on standardized testing in Pakistan; I scored a 1910 on the SAT after two attempts). Decent work experience. My personal statements were based on my efforts to not let a disorder (OCPD) come in the way of personal happiness and academic success.

I turned in all my applications by the 7th of January, and haven't heard from any schools yet.

I expect a flurry of responses telling me to re-take the LSAT, but I'd like some honest opinions on what my chances are at schools ranked 50th and better. In particular, do I have much of a shot at Fordham, Hastings, and Maryland (got a waiver from the latter)?

I mean, you can read law school numbers as well as we can, but just looking at it, it looks like you're possibly in at Maryland and Hastings, out at Fordham. I don't think your addendum or personal statement sound like enough to encourage them to overlook your LSAT at anywhere much higher than Maryland, but who knows. I'm disappointed you plan to waste such an amazing gpa on that LSAT, but I'm sure you'll get a lot of annoying "retake" comments, so I'll stop there. Good luck at UC-Hastings/Maryland!

Retake is the only option here. There's over four months til the June LSAT. Study hard, improve the score by at least 10 points, and apply early to T14. You mentioned Hastings- Berkeley would love your GPA and takes a holistic approach to apps, so they'd love their WE and probably your PS. The LSAT is extremely learnable, esp. with that much time.

Honest opinion: Retake. A 155 is not going to get you anywhere worth going. It's a harsh reality, but you need to face it. Good luck.

Don't waste that great GPA! Take a year and study for the LSAT. Jeebus.

Going to any of these schools with that GPA would be silly. Re-take the LSAT or you are selling yourself way short.

Also, where are your ties? You seem to just be pulling schools out of a hat. You need to be looking at geographic preferences in making a decision.

Many of us would kill for a GPA like that. Retake and profit. I can assure you that you won't regret it.

Why doesn't my school give 'A+'s? And why didn't I choose an easier major? Fuck me.

^ My school doesn't give A+s neither.

I also agree with your statement. If I would have known I wanted to go to law school after undergrad I would have majored in anything that didn't involve math or hard science.

Retake, enjoy HYS. There isn't even another option. Don't apply anywhere til you break 170.

No real ties per se. I'm just trying to get into the best law schools that I can. Geographically speaking, my preferred states would be CA (where I did my undergrad), NY, as well as the Boston area.

Do you think I have much of a shot at Fordham, Hastings, and Maryland?

you have a good shot at all of those schools.

as many have mentioned, you definitely take a shot at the LSAT one more time! even improving your score by 5 points will get you some scholarship money at those schools. just study and take it once more, it'll pay itself off in scholly money or better schools.

You need to understand that the LSAT is a learnable test. You are obviously good at studying. Why not retake and go to the best schools in the country. Don't you owe yourself a shot at that? Law is extremely prestige driven, don't give up on yourself.

If you don't retake and apply ED to UVA everyone here will be mad at you.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
