3.65/164 where can I get in?
Hello,
I've got a 3.65 GPA and have been testing around a 165 on practice LSAT tests. Should this be good enough for a top 14 school?
Soft factors include deans list, presidents list, student body vice-president, elected as a county precint chairman, and many other leadership positions.
Thank you!

URM? If yes, then yes. If no, then no.
I'd wait til you get a real score before thinking too much. Crazy things can happen on test day. Good luck!

This is dramatically insufficient for a T14.

A 164 with your gpa will give you no shot at a top 14, but the positive is you're 5 points from the top 14 (perhaps 4 if you play it right).
A 164 is real good relative to the US population, but when you consider fewer than half of all test takers matriculate, and that there are close to 200 schools, 90th percentile won't cut top 14.

What about top 25? I'm from Texas so I'll be looking at the University of Houston, Baylor, SMU, and (my extreme reach) University of Texas.
Just curious, does anybody have an opinion on Arizona State or the University of Arizona? These would be highly attractive based upon the weather and location.
Thanks,
Nick

Would Iowa be an option?

You are out at TX with anything below 167 I believe. Iowa you're all set with 164.knznick wrote:Would Iowa be an option?

You should get ASU and UofA with at least some $$, but is that where you'd like to end up?? Neither of them are terrible schools but they place almost exclusively in Arizona.
UT Austin is likely a no (check out this cycle on LSN).
Go to school where you wanna live

Re: 3.65/164 where can I get in?
That's the hard part.. I know Texas has no state income tax which is great might I add, but I think I could live anywhere in the south that has good weather. I'm from Iowa so I hate those harsh northern winters! Does anyone know if Arizona has a state income tax? I'll look it up anyway.
One other question: what is the best online LSAT prep course? I'm really struggling to find one and am taking the June LSAT!
Thanks,
Nick

You appear to be 'set' on taking an online prep course but how come you won't just self-study? With a 164 you clearly have a great place to start to break into a 170's. Self prep could save you a lot of money.

I know I know! I'm just worried that I'd be missing out on some information if I self study.. You right I probably should just self study, I just don't want to kick myself for it larr if I do bad.
Powerscore Bibles (all three)
40+ practice tests
Anything else I'd need to self study?

A solid, strict schedule and you should be just fine!
Have a little more confidence in yourself! A 164 is a great score and it shows you have a very solid grasp on what to expect... now it's just about the finer details. Self study should get you into the 170's quite easily if you can just stick with it

Are you interested in any California schools? With those numbers, you could probably get into USC, definitely UC Hastings and UC Davis. You mentioned you liked that sort of weather, so those might be attractive options! You're definitely good at SMU. Raise LSAT by a few points and a decent shot at UT.

Oops, didn't realize you didn't have an official score yet! If you're 164 on practice tests, just work at it and you'll do great on test day! I really liked Kaplan's online course - you get access to every single test, it's great. Good luck!knznick wrote:That's the hard part.. Thanks everyone. I know it's a bit early before an actual LSAT but fun to consider the possibilities.

And stop judging places based on a state income tax or not. It's certainly a consideration, but you're saying it like it's the only thing that matters.

Re: 3.65/164 where can I get in?
It's not the only thing that matters. But after living in a state which has no income tax I've come to appreciate not getting extra money pulled out of my checks for nothing. I'm trying to make an informed decision and that is one factor that is important to me.

1. Your softs will fill up space on your application. But they probably won't get you into a better school than your numbers.
2. Go to lawschoolnumbers.com Put your numbers in the calculator. You can put as many hypothetical LSAT scores as you want.
