3.81 - 163/167/166 - Advice Please

Post by hooma » Tue Oct 25, 2011 4:58 pm

I'm wondering a couple of things:

1) Do I have a chance of getting into a law school worth going to at sticker, or can I get $$ at a school worth going to at all? I live in Northern Virginia and my preference would be to stay in the area, although I would be willing to move for the right school. It's also possible that I would have an associate offer at my firm where I've been a paralegal for the last year and a half upon graduating law school, though certainly not a guarantee.

2) Should I try to retake a 4th time? My first score is from June 2009 so I'll be good in terms of the 2-year-rule. My second two scores were the result of psuedo-serious self-study (love that alliteration) and if I take it a fourth time, I will certainly sign up for a class like Velocity or Atlas/Manhattan and take it in February or June, delaying my cycle another year. This may be helpful because I'll have an additional year or WE, but I really just want to get the ball rolling on my life. Plus I'm tired of taking the LSAT.

3) How badly did I screw myself by dropping a point? Not that I can do anything about it now, just wondering.

Any advice is appreciated.

W&M or W&L with money seem likely. I think they'd be worth it. Apply to Cornell if you can handle T14 competition in arctic conditions (maybe worth sticker).

It's unfortunate that you dropped, but I imagine it has no real effect, as the only schools that average are out your (and my) reach.

Thanks for your help. I've assembled a list of schools to apply to partly based on waivers received. Any suggestions as to which are not worthwhile and/or schools I should add?

Virginia - In-state
Michigan - Fee Waiver
NU
Duke - Fee Waiver
Penn
Cornell
GULC
Vandy
GWU
W&M - Fee Waiver
W&L - Fee Waiver
GMU - Fee Waiver

No one's gonna care about your drop. You're gonna ba a 167/3.81 to them.

Also, you're a vanilla applicant, so see http://lawschoolnumbers.com/

That looks like a good list.

I'd add Texas (medians: 167 and 3.69) for sure, and your pick of the remaining T15-25.

WM seems like your best bet. You'll get solid $$ and have great prospects in Nova. Good luck.
