3.97 / 164 URM (Mexican)

I just sent an E.D. app to UVA. Should be complete. Decent softs but nothing mind-blowing. Same on the personal statement. What do you think are my chances, and also, how soon will I hear back? (I've heard UVA gets back to early decision applicants very quickly but is that always true?)

You're in at UVA.

It is a shame you ED'd UVA unless that was far-and-away your #1 choice.

Should I have aimed higher? Cuz frankly, my new 164 pisses me off.

If you've already submitted, don't worry about it. I don't think there's any way out of it anyway.

If for some crazy reason you get deferred, apply to all of T14.

Humor me. Did I have a chance at, say, Michigan? Because their 25th percentile is 168.

I'm not sure how much of a boost MA is, but I think you're safe for CCN and have a decent shot at HYS.

That's ridiculous. Really?

Not this rosy, but you would have outside shots at HYS and and pretty good chances at CCN.

You really think CCN?

Yeah, I overestimated, so I downgraded to "decent."

OP, there's really no point in worrying about it now.

Hey Soj, I am 164, Mexican, but with a 3.3 LSDAS. Also two years work experience. Can I get in at Virginia ED or should I just try to ride out my cycle? Really just trying to get into the best school I can get into, and not debt adverse.

Did not mean to hijack thread, it's just aside from GPA (mine being much lower) we are sort of similar.

Ride out your cycle.

What would be the highest rank school that I can send an ED to where I could reasonably get in?

I'm not sure. URM cycles are unpredictable. If you haven't already, ask in the URM forum and look around on LSN.

Update:

I got UVA to redesignate my application regular-decision. Also applied ED to Columbia, EA to Cornell, and regular to NYU. Still hoping to throw in GULC, UCLA, and maybe Boalt depending if I get fee waivers. I know people always say URM cycles are unpredictable but what do you think are my rough chances at these places? LSP says I'm an Admit at Boalt if I apply, and Strong Consider at UVA, UCLA, and Cornell, with Considers at Columbia, NYU, and GULC. Does that feel right?

Probably a wise decision. If you've got the money, throw in apps to the rest of the T-14 too.

I really didn't think Mexican-Americans got this much of an LSAT boost. That's like 4-5 points from what I would need otherwise. And I don't even have a Spanish-sounding name at all. Do you guys really think I'm not throwing $500 down the drain?

Blanket S on down. You have an OK chance at getting into at least one of SCCN. Good shots at MVP on down. As you note, URM cycles are unpredictable. You might get into Penn, but not Duke-- and other random crap along those lines.

There is always the chance you regret pulling out of UVA ED, but I think you will get something similar or better.

For some reason Harvard is spamming me saying they look for Latino applicants and diversity of opinions, etc. etc. Did other URMs get this? I figured even with the M-A boost I'd be very much an underdog to get into HLS.

AFAIK, non-URM Hispanics also got this e-mail. I don't think it means anything necessarily.
