3.5/High 150s

Post by richard22 » Fri Oct 07, 2011 3:34 pm

Can someone give me an assessment what are the best schools I can get in? And if I need a large amount of scholarships to move further, what is the range of schools I should look at? Thanks a lot!

I graduated in May 2011 with my master degree in accounting from one of the top accounting programs in the nation. I did undergrad in accounting there too. I am working for a relative small accounting firm now and I just got my CPA. GPA: 3.5. LSAT: High 150s. Solid working experience, recommendation letters (from professors and firm partner). Also fluent in Chinese if that helps.

Just be a CPA because if you're taking out loans you can't get into many schools worth going to.

Also, have you taken te LSAT yet?

Just be a CPA. Seriously. Have you seen the employment outcomes for lawyers lately?

My prediction for you is unemployment as a lawyer or doc review until India puts you out of business. Stay in accounting. There are lawyers trying to jump ship and move into accounting. If law was sooo awesome, why would they be busting their asses to get out of this field.

Check out law school predictor. If there's a school that's a consider or a stronger consider that you can go to in-state, that would be best. Try to keep your debt low.

Or study to retake and open up another tier of possibilities.

You are already a CPA, and it sounds like you already have a job. You don't need law school. If you're not there already, go to one of the Big Four, stay for about four years, then go to one of your clients and make excellent money there. And if you think you want to be a CPA/JD (I thought I did, at one point), think again - you don't need that, and it's my understanding that an increasing number of states prevent you from holding both licenses anyway. Please seriously reconsider assuming hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt only to have dismal employment prospects.
