Chances at UGA...LSN gives conflicting results...

Postby blueliner23 » Fri Aug 26, 2011 4:46 pm

So my GPA is a 3.2 and LSAT score is a 165.

MY #1 pick is UGA for Law School next year.

I was glancing over law school numbers, and I saw A LOT of people accepted with GPA's equal to or less than mine (but they had good LSAT scores).

Also, I saw a fair amount of people rejected with higher GPA's than me, and LSAT scores not much lower than me. Someone was rejected with a 3.7/160, for example.

Anyway, it seems that UGA is very sensitive concerning the LSAT score. I am going to take the LSAT again to see if I can breach 170.

But my real question is, what might be the reasons for accepting/rejecting people like I mentioned above? Work experience, recommendations, essays, etc.

What does everyone think? Because I would love to go to UGA. I know I am a splitter, but I think if I applied with a 3.2/170....I would have a pretty good chance.

3.2/170 you'd be in.

The problem with UGA is that you CAN get in with 3.2/165, especially if you apply early. The big reason you will see people with really good numbers who are rejected is because UGA runs out of space for out of state students usually sometime in the end of January/beginning of February.
The other thing is that UGA is trying to increase their medians--so 165 is pretty borderline. They like high gpas, too, which makes your numbers even more borderline. I'd retake, but you may get in with a tuition equalizer (if out of state) if you apply early and appear to be a "good person."

+1

With a 165, you have a decent shot at UGA. 165 is over their median and their 25th is 3.4, so you're not much below that. Keep in mind that there is a big difference between a 165 and a 160. 165 is over median at UGA, 160 is below their 25th (162). Are you in-state? That might give you a small boost.

If you can retake up to 170+, you should get GULC, maybe Cornell (their GPA floor is about 3.3, but it's not very hard), and NW with WE. Scholly at WUSTL/UIUC/IU-B.

I am in-state. I am going to retake the LSAT in October to see if I can crack 170. I will obviously be applying to schools other than UGA, however I like the in-state tuition. If some out of state school want to give me $$$, I'll take it. But I will just have to see. lol

I'm borderline aspie and yet everything still turned out better than expected.

I don't want you to be overly optimistic, but with in-state and applying early, you should definitely be in.

hey I'm another UGA hopeful too! I'm in a similar situation as yours, except I think you're in a better position (I'm 164/3.5). I too will be retaking in october to see if I can land a 170 score. Feel free to PM me if you feel terrified and alone in this journey, because I sure am : P. Well good luck with your endeavor and hopefully we'll both be lawdawgs in the coming fall!

FWIW, UGA's new class medians are 3.6/165. I think a 3.2 / 165 + in-state would be good for admission, but even 166/167 could get you in with $5k or so. I would bet that next cycle 164/3.5 would be WL>Admit unless you applied super early or had above-average softs.
