3.97/170, Chances of T6 or $ at T14?
I graduated from a public school in the Midwest, wrapping up a master's. I feel my softs are pretty good: I was a terrible high school student, did well at undergrad, won some awards, some work experience, though my grad GPA is a bit lower.
I was hoping for H/Y/S, but perusing this forum makes that seem like a longshot. What do you guys think about the rest of the T6, or chances for scholarships at T14? I would really not like to retake the LSAT, since I studied at max. effort for a good time period and scored near the top of my personal curve.

Decent shot at HYS, but particularly Stanford. I think Harvard and Yale are worth the application fee though. Columbia is weird sometimes, but I would say you're probably in there, and I would say you're definitely in at NYU and Chicago, probably with money at both, but at least with some substantial money at Chicago (maybe like $20k/yr).Perdevise wrote:I graduated from a public school in Ohio with double major in polisci/international affairs, wrapping up a master's in community planning. I feel my softs are pretty good: I was a terrible high school student with substance abuse problems, hoarder parents I am now distanced from, cleaned up and did well at undergrad, won some awards and scholarships, founded a student group, won a full-ride to a master's program with an assistantship, so some work experience, though my grad GPA is a bit lower. Volunteered for a workers' center and interned at a indigent defense nonprofit. Looking for meaningful work for the year before the 2012 cycle.

Best shot is CCN. You'll get money at MVP.

I think you'll have a great cycle! work on becoming un-distanced from your parents - you'll need them during the financial aid portion of your cycle (assuming you are under 30).

Thank you for the advice. I pledge to pass along my experience once I'm through the hoops.
What do you guys think in general of choosing rank over scholarship size?

I have very similar numbers. Here's how mines turned out this year:

Ludwig, you had an excellent cycle. I have just a few questions; where did you choose to go? And why do you think Michigan waitlisted you?

Don't quote me on this, but I have a feeling that Michigan was a YP thing. They WL'd me relatively late in the process, probably under the assumption that I had gotten into other decent schools by that point. I withdrew a few days later and did not ride because I wanted to give others a better shot at getting in. I am currently deposited at UChicago.
As far as my cycle overall, I came into it a relatively 'clean' applicant, as in I had no retakes, no funny stuff with my transcripts, no armed robberies, and solid LOR's. Other than that, I really do think that your PS will be the difference-maker between WL and admit at a bunch of T-14's. Make a concerted effort to bring out the aspects of your life experience which are unique to you, and I'm sure you'll do fine this upcoming cycle.
