No Job Experience

Post by njprospect88 » Sat May 28, 2011 6:08 am

So I have absolutely no job/internship experience and I plan on going to Law School straight off of College.
GPA 3.7 LSAT 165.
I'm shooting for t2s, and I just wanted to know, if this is a bad idea.
If my lack of job experience will be a factor in finding 1L summer Legal internship.
Thank you.

You will do fine. I see you attending a T30 on a partial scholarship. Get good grades, and have somewhat of a personality at OCI and you will do just as good as others who only have a couple years of experience.

I just wonder why you would be shooting for t2s with those numbers.

And you probably should delete the same post you made in the other forum.

Well, Wherever I go, I have to work hard, don't I ?
aside from that, I really like North Jersey. (Newark not so much, but North Jersey is good)
I feel like my resume would be so short stacked if I don't introduce some college internship experiences :(
or do Firms even care about your UD work?

You just need 1 thing to talk about at interviews, so do something interesting for a bit this summer. Get involved with some sort of charity for 1 day a week this summer, such as a soup house, habitat for humanity or anything really. Just do something, and surely something interesting will happen. Or get an interesting job, such as working on a fishing boat or something. Again, do something, anything :)

As long as you aren't at Northwestern, there will be tons of people in the same situation as you. Every other school has plenty of K-JD kids without significant WE.

And don't aim for T2 with those numbers. That would be a huge waste and a terrible idea.

Thank you for the responses! They were very helpful.
But I see that T2 appears to be a big no no for most.
To be specific, (as you probably inferred from my ID), I am going to apply to SHU and RU-Newark. (maybe one other school).
Rutgers taking preference over SHU.

I mean, I think if I working hard and all, RU-Newark would be a reasonable investment?
Land mid size law somewhere in northern NJ.
I'm not looking into NY at all, just NJ, so I thought it would be the best choice.

Or, do I have no idea what I'm talking about?

It really depends on how much money you can get. I think with those numbers you're looking at $20-50K from RU-Newark and somewhere around $100K from SHU. Either way I'm guessing $50-60K of debt upon graduation. Someone more familiar with career prospects from those schools could tell you if that is manageable.

You should really get a job. At the very least for some life experience. How in the hell do you make it into your twenties without a hard days work? How do you like, you know, eat and pay rent and shit?
