hold out for T10?
hey,
i was waitlisted at 2 t10 schools (columbia and nyu) with a 4.0 ivy gpa and 166 lsat (prev lsat was 163) but i got into vandy with some scholarship money. should i hold out for the nyc schools? do i stand a chance? or should i just resign myself to vandy--which will be cheaper but has a shittier lrap program? i guess what i wanna figure out is if, when i'm actually looking for jobs/repaying the loans, i'll wish i'd pushed for a one of the t10 (even with the heftier price tags)?

I highly doubt you'll get NYU/Columbia with a 166.

I was on two waitlists for 'reach' schools and got into neither. I would make your seat deposit at Vandy by the deadline, and then if you get into one of the wl schools you can always withdraw and just lose the deposit.

TITCR. It kinda sucks, but it's your best/safest option.blsingindisguise wrote:I was on two waitlists for 'reach' schools and got into neither. I would make your seat deposit at Vandy by the deadline, and then if you get into one of the wl schools you can always withdraw and just lose the deposit.

Re: hold out for T10?
only applied to cornell and was also waitlisted. but, given that it's not a t10 and unlikely to offer good aid off the waitlist, i'd probs turn it down if i got in.

Re: hold out for T10?
You're probably not getting in off the waitlist. Vandy is a fine school, as long as you're not paying sticker (they're pretty generous with scholarship), so you're probably fine there.
If you want to take a year and reapply next cycle, you could have much better options if you retake in October. If you can bring your LSAT up 3 - 4 points, you have a very good shot at NYU. 5-6 points for Columbia. 8-9 points and you will even be looking at good scholarships from there.

Re: hold out for T10?
i only applied to like 5 law schools because my main concerns were being set up to practice a specific kind of intl law and having lower debt/scholarship offers. i knew columbia and cornell had those programs and that nyu had the pi focus and great lrap with good intl reach. the idea of prestige is not as important to me as being well situated--financially and/or in terms of specific programs--to pursue the kind of law i wanted. i also did not want to be in michigan, philly or cville (though no offense to those who do). i mean i'm actually pretty happy to go to vandy over nyu or columbia, i just don't wanna be kicking myself for not pushing to try to get off the waitlist (should that even be possible)paulinaporizkova wrote:bella07 wrote:hey,

and as far as lsats go, i've taken it enough and practiced a bunch (all tests since 40 done 2/3 times and all tests 20-40). so unlikely to do much better there and don't wanna wait to reapply.

Trolling the op aside, you should deposit at vandy and stay on wait lists at nyu and Columbia. Send them letters of continued interest and check on your application status frequently. If you get lucky, great, otherwise enjoy vandy

Re: hold out for T10?
It seems as if you feel you would be "settling" for Vandy. If that is the case, you should seriously consider retaking. If you can pickup 2 or more correct answers, your cycle will change dramatically.
Also, as discussed above, Boalt and UVA accept many candidates with your numbers. Did you aply to either?

Study for LSAT--apply again next cycle with knolwedge of law school admissions--or, dont retake and ED to UVA, MICH, PENN, etc if you want top 10--if you dont care go to Vandy but you are not getting Coloumbia/NYU--there are over 1000 people on those waitlists--well over half with higher than a 166

Re: hold out for T10?
I'm in a very similar situation. 166 and WL at Columbia, Northwestern, Duke and Cornell. Didn't apply to Michigan, Penn, or UVA either. Will be attending UCLA- I've withdrawn from all WL except Columbia's. I'm pretty psyched about UCLA- it's a fabulous school. If I get into CLS, so be it. In any case, I think we both have some great options
