2.9 163 LSAT chances at Hofstra?

Post by bhosage » Mon May 16, 2011 12:14 pm

I scored a 163 on the LSAT, and currently have a 2.9 gpa. What are my chances to get into Hofstra law school? Should I apply for early decision, would it help my chances?

If you really have a 163, do not apply ED. That would be sooooo dumb.

You will get into Hofstra. A 163 is well above the 75th, and more than makes up for your GPA (at hofstra).

I think you should also throw apps to Brooklyn, and St. John's, and go with the fattest scholarship.

You might have the highest LSAT in all of Uniondale. Congrats.

I think it's a general rule that one should never go to any school in NY ranked below Fordham unless you have a job lined up afterwards. Even Fordham IMHO is a risky proposition.

If you finish your first year in the top 10 percent of your class can't you transfer to a T14?

There is a 90% chance of this not happening.

No. And further, you should never ever go to law school thinking you will transfer. Everyone is probably trying to the same thing at a school like Hofstra but obviously not everyone can transfer. The competition at any law school is cutthroat which makes even graduating in the top-third difficult.

being blatantly lied to by a salesman is much more beneficial to your long term interests than obnoxious and largely socially inept honesty?

those reviews are about as reliable as the school websites are.

Hofstra isn't a bad choice if you want to remain on Long Island. At least it isn't Touro.

Their lulzy bar passage rate begs to differ.

Where are you going to work on Long Island? The Long Island legal scene is not really overwhelming.

This. I can always count on Rad LAw to say what I would have said if I saw the thread sooner.

I was an attorney at one of the largest LI based law firms and left it to go to a TINY law firm in NYC where I make more money. The LI legal market pays well below average for the entire tri-state area.

I think this: http://top-law-schools.com/archives/vie ... ofstra+bar Might be my all time favorite Hofstra rant... Ah those were the days...

You may have a realistic chance at Temple, I wouldn't bank on it, but you may have a chance. I was in a similar boat as you, my GPA was abysmal but my LSAT was fairly solid. Got rejected at some mid-Tier 2s, got accepted some. Being a splitter makes everything a bit more variable. Try for fee waivers and apply to a number of schools where you're above median or 75th percentile LSAT. I know personally, I'd feel uncomfortable attending Hofstra at sticker. NYC is a big market and loaded with tons of better schools and lots of people from around the country coming there. If you really want in the area, go t a state school with in-state like Rutgers-Newark. Half the price and some better job prospects it seems. The kind of money Hofstra costs (tuition and absurd CoL) and the limited scope of career prospects, I'd look elsewhere.

If I do well this fall I can have a 3.0. Would I have a chance to get into Brooklyn law school? or would I need a higher LSAT
