Probably NYU because Chicago cares more about LSATs. California schools (Berkeley and Stanford) are your best bet with high gpa low LSAT.

I know somebody w/ basically those numbers who got NYU ED this year, and LSN shows people in the same range getting Chicago, as well. The NYU graph actually has more people getting rejected in that range than Chicago had, but that might not mean much because of sample size. I don't think it's accurate to say Chicago cares more about the LSAT, though. NYU's median and 75th are now 172 and 175. Also be careful about saying the CA schools are your best bet here. 168 isn't exactly a low LSAT especially for ED purposes, and the CA schools have small(ish) classes and look for strong softs in addition to that stellar GPA. Neither Boalt nor Stanford have an ED option.

because op doesn't think they can get a 173. and b/c most of those scores average. so if they get a 173 they'll be averaging at a 170/171. But they are not confident. what happens if OP takes it and gets screwed?

Ah, I didn't see the "crazy impossible" post.

That said I think the OP is just wrong and would counsel them that with hard and smart studying its very possible.

The average retake score of people who took it again after a 168 is 171.1 and just breaking 170 will likely do alot to help OP at many schools.

true statement. i retook so i can attest to that. but that being said. i knew my first score was wrong b/c of how sick i was. my biggest fear was having a fluke and going down. lol
