3.2 in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and (EDIT) Got a 166

Postby timorousg » Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:49 pm

What are my chances for places like Boston U, Boston College, Texas, Hastings, U of Washington, and NYU/Columbia (know I'm reaching here)?

EDIT: Originally posted projecting a 164 on the Dec. LSAT, got a 166.

Out at all, except maybe Hastings. I don't know the California schools that well.

Sorry OP but you're aiming too high given your stats. I know people may have told you that what major you did and where you did it matter, but it doesn't. If you want those schools a retake is in order because there's nothing you can do about your GPA at this point.

Study more. If you're still "projecting" your LSAT score, I take it you aren't applying this cycle anyway. Get a 170 and you'll be a lock at all those except NYU Columbia.
I'm 165/3.62 and still waiting to hear from BU. Seriously, every point counts. Study your butt off between now and June.

+1 regarding the major not mattering. I'm an RN with 7yrs WE, and I had all these people telling me that made me special. It doesn't. My cycle is going exactly the way lawschoolpredictor said it would.

166ish 168ish would improve your chances a lot for the T20. 164 should get you into T30

Are you going into IP ?

You might want to get a PhD first then

You'll also need a post doctoral if you ever even want a chance of getting a job that's not at macdonalds

I hate to say it, but you're out at Texas as well unless you're in state. They're notoriously harsh on OOS splitters and/or folks with lower (relatively) GPAs.

OP is out at Texas even if he has lived here his entire life.

I was projecting because I was waiting on scores for the Dec. test. Ended up with a 166. Does this change my chances considerably?

Congratulations that is a good score. I would blanket the T6-T20 with a reasonable shot of getting into one of the schools.

This is way off. OP's not getting into any T20 school, much less CCN.

OP, you have a chance at schools like Minnesota, Indiana, etc. Look for schools that like high LSATs and take lower GPAs. IMO, the highest-ranked school you can get is Emory.

Are you applying this cycle? If not, why not retake in June? I hate it when peoples advice is retake, but seriously, at this level, and with that gpa, every LSAT point counts. My gpa is 3.6, and at schools where I'm at their LSAT gpa, I'm in with $. At schools where I'm 1 point under, not in at all.
That being said, regardless of when and with what numbers you apply, apply everywhere you think you want to go. There's a great article on TLS about wanting to have at least one rejection in your cycle. How else will you know you reached high enough?

Resolved to take the LSAT again this summer, especially considering I studied for all of about 3 days for the test in December. Hypothetically what would my chances look like for lower T14 if I hit 170?

You'd have a good shot at snagging some of the lower T14. Probably out at Duke, out at NU unless you have w/e, but decent chances at GULC/Cornell and MVP.
