You're GPA is pretty good. If only you can bring that LSAT to 160...it would change your life. I know people don't like retakes for various reasons (age, time commitment, $, family, work), but a retake would be amazing. Plus, during that period of studying, you can always add couple more things to your resume and whatnot...

Re: 3.6 GPA / 140 - 145 LSAT (Top 100)
I am a URM and I will say with that LSAT score chances are slim and none under 150. what state do you live in there are better prep courses, but it's all on the prep timesparty99 wrote:My stats are the following:
(1) 3.6 GPA and was a member of my school's honors college program
(2) 140 - 145 LSAT
(3) Graduated from a well known, Big 10 University - Business Major
(4) African American Male
(5) Worked in strategy consulting at Accenture
(6) Studied abroad
My LSAT does not represent my academic ability as I scored a 950 out of 1600 on the SAT. I recently took the December test and will take the February test. I am applying for Fall 2011, both full time and part time programs.
Is it at ALL possible to get into a Top 30 - 80 with my STATS? I know my LSAT is horribly low and I am trying to score higher, but I am also realistic (FYI, I took testmasters prep course).
I am considering (as of now):
(1) Washington University (St. Louis)
(2) University of Texas
(3) Southern Methodist University
(4) The Ohio State University
(5) University of Maryland
(6) University of Houston
(7) Michigan State University
(8) Howard
(9) Rutgers and Temple

Re: 3.6 GPA / 140 - 145 LSAT (Top 100)
Are you a white american or URM? even being an URM wont help much under 150. you might have to expand your search a little more and look to transfersparty99 wrote:I live in Texas and will be studying using the Testmasters material. I can't afford another course and just spent $350 to renew my online access and their videos (which are helpful).
Ideally, I am shooting for a 150 - 155. I know that's low, but my first diagnostic was a 134. I would be interested in hearing if anyone with a similar score was able to get into a Top 100. I am hoping my honors college experience, above average gpa, and consulting career can get me into some Top 30-80 programs.

You NEED to get the Bibles LR, LG. there is no reason why you cannot get a 160 with those books and like the poster above said a 160 will change you life. A 170+ will most likely get you into harvard. take your time wait as long as you need to until you are scoring a lot higher on the lsat.

you took the LSAT 6 times and got a 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, and 145?
no need worrying about anything untill you have your score.

Re: 3.6 GPA / 140 - 145 LSAT (Top 100)
Short answer: Your stats = not getting in a top 80.
Why are you making excuses for your performance? Study hard, figure out what you're doing wrong, get creative and increase scores. Sorry but I'm sick of people who post low score, want to get into a good/decent school, but make it seem like they won't put in the effort. If you're not going to put in effort now, maybe you should reconsider law school.

I agree, and to expound on this, by "Bibles" people mean the test prep books by the company Powerscore. Their Logic Games Bible, and to a somewhat lesser extent, their Logical Reasoning Bible, are known as the ultimate best prep you can do (for many people they work way better than even prep courses). They are each about $65 I think, maybe less, and 100% worth the money. They do have one for LC I believe, but I think it is regarding as being less life-changing. I increased my score by 8 points with the LG Bible - I bet you could do even better since it sounds like time management is a big part of your problem and their strategy helps you improve that a lot. Good luck.atresia wrote:sophia.olive wrote:You NEED to get the Bibles LR, LG. there is no reason why you cannot get a 160 with those books and like the poster above said a 160 will change you life. I will succeed in law school. I worked in strategy consulting (which is 60-80 hours a week) and had a 3.6 gpa, while also being a member of my school's honors college program, which has a higher grade scale and more assignments/reading than regular courses.
With my gpa, I'm not satisfied with a low tier school. I'll focus on the LSAT and let ya'll know how I do.
You did NOT get the most out of your money! I see you purchased the Logic Games Bible, but at your previous scores you should have been focusing heavily on the Logical Reasoning Bible. Particularly, there is a chart in there that shows all of the different types of question and family it falls into. You should know it and understand it cold because it is the generic bluenprint for how to think about and handle specific question stems. Go through the LR Bible on your own for about two weeks. Do maybe about 1-2 Chapters a day depending on how much material is covered. Take notes. Do ALL practice exercises and Review questions and make sure you understand everything you got wrong. By the time you are done doing this, you will be eager to try out your new skills. Use the Free June 07 test and do the 2 LR sections. If you've grasped the material well you should notice a significant immediate improvement. Example: If you are missing about 25-30 LRs total, you should only be missing about 15-20 or even 10-15 after that.
But the work is not done. You must then REREAD the entire LRB. You will notice things in there that were not apparent the first time. Next, do the First 10 LSAT Book. Take these untimed, and try to build consistency. Review ALL questions missed. When you are done with the 10 Book, go back and REREAD the entire LRB before starting the Next 10 Book. If you're grasping the material well enough, you begin to understand why the questions you got wrong were wrong and why the right answer was right. At some point around the SuperPrep or Last 10 Book, try to transition into timed sections, then do all of the modern PTs (40-61) timed. Document your sections and keep track of your improvement and consistency.
Lastly, when you are stumped in review, use TLS and the other helpful people to review your mistakes. There's a good chance if you found a question difficult, so did others and there is probably a great explanation for it covered by one of the LSAT masters.
This will take months of work to do, but it will well be worth it. 160 can definitely be in your grasp. I previously sat for the test twice and got 148/149. Then, this past June when I finally figured out how to properly study for this test and understood what was being asked, my scores shot up into the mid-upper 160's. Ended up with a 163 in Oct (LG Choke), but you get my point. Got into the lower T1s I was looking at (I'm not a URM). If you score where I did, however, you'll easily be in the T20, maybe higher. Good Luck!

Re: 3.6 GPA / 140 - 145 LSAT (Top 100)
Great advice and very well thought out. I am an URM and the 1st time I took the test I got a 146 I literally cried, but I took a prep course (Binary Solutions) and did the work. spent hours upon hours studying burning the midnight adderall oil. I jumping into upper 150's low 160's prep tests. bombed on the mulch game got -10 on games when I was averaging -2 the most, and I went back to work a month ago for Dec 2010 test I am sure I got at most -1 wrong in LG. I'm feeling like I hit 166 at worst. I understand the concessions they make for URM because of the disparity in education, but the bottom line Law school is work, and no matter what shade you are an excuse will find you at Cooley law (no offense) keep working it's there in your brain you have to find it. stay strong, stay diligent!DrackedaryMaster wrote:sparty99 wrote:Thank you for the comments. I was accepted to a Top 80 law school. I guess my chances were not that slim.

I'd keep the strat consulting gig to be honest. ACN basically prints money. And you can get a regular position with a company paying six figures in short order. Or go to business school.
That's just me though.

This probably isn't true at accenture. Accenture is known for it's tech consulting. From the strategy department i'm not sure his exit options are that great.ahduth wrote:I'd keep the strat consulting gig to be honest. ACN basically prints money. Re: 3.6 GPA / 140 - 145 LSAT (Top 100)
I ordered the Logical Reasoning Bible off of Amazon and it was like $30. Definitely purchase this and the other two as they will help improve your score. I improved from a 153 cold take to a 170 in about five months just working through (what seemed like) hundreds of prep tests and the logical reasoning bible. The prep tests I purchased were the 10 Actual LSAT's series.Excellence = a Habit wrote:I agree, and to expound on this, by "Bibles" people mean the test prep books by the company Powerscore. Six months later......I will be attending a top 35 law school on a near full tuition scholarship with a LSAT in the 30% percentile. Additionally, I received this award as a late round waitlist!
I know I am not the norm, but if there is anyone out there who is thinking a top tier law school is not possible with a low LSAT, I am proof that you are wrong.
