Chances at Money

Post by Adrian_M » Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:25 pm

I'm applying from Toronto, looking to get into a JD/MBA program in the US. I would need close to a full ride to be able to come to the states for my legal education and am wondering what my chances are at some full rides based on my stats.

GPA: 3.9
LSAT: 173
GMAT: 720
EC's: Nothing crazy, Course Union President, on the board of a business council here in Toronto, member of a couple other student unions, summer internship.

What are my chances at getting into Columbia, NYU with full rides or lots of money.

Harvard, Yale: Do I have chances at getting in at all? Basically from everything I've read unless I have the cure for cancer Yale is out of the question (exaggeration I know but I'm just saying my EC's are not that strong)

Go to Stanford.

Columbia is your safety.

is canada considered international? i know they're another nation, but are on the same continent.

if so, idk how much your 3.9 matters. it is awfully hard to get $ from columbia and nyu. even with your 3.9 counting, i'd predict you just get in.

What is your WE? You don't have a shot at getting into those programs with money unless you have great WE. Also, I am not sure it's possible to get a full ride to any of those programs for JD/MBA, since financial aid is typically handled by one of the two schools.

I've been working as a bank clerk for 2 years, part time. Does that help?

Alright... so what T-14 schools do I have a shot at getting full rides to? Chicago maybe?

It's HARD to get a full ride to any T-14. You have a SHOT at getting one from Chicago, NYU, Columbia, and Michigan, for law school alone (if you wanted to apply for a joint program you would probably be welcomed but they would not pick up the tab). You better put together a really good application package to be offered any one of these though.

Also, your chances at both a full ride and at just getting into a joint MBA program are greatly diminished by your lack of full time work experience. You would be better off working for two years if this is your primary goal.
