2.7/156 AA male

I looked at law school predictor and LSN but the I'm not sure about the accuracy of the former and the latter is self-reported. My GPA had a pretty dramatic upward trend during the last 3 semesters of undergrad career. I just wanted to get atleast an idea of my options are.

LSP is based on LSN.

Your upward trend doesn't really matter. You should retake the LSAT.

Do you believe that's necessary though? Are you suggesting my scores wouldn't get me into any respectable schools?

Yes, that is what I am suggesting.

Top 14 or bust. You're African American....don't waste it.

Sidenote: I don't mean the above comment to sound racist by any means. I just hear people always say "You have a 4.0 don't waste it" so considering law school is the one instance in life where skin color/ethnicity can in fact give you a decisive advantage, you should probably use it.

Even though I'm totally against the URM bump in every way.

I'd suggest you apply to Howard.

... or maybe try to take some graduate-level (or other undergrad) classes to get your GPA up.

If your GPA is below 3.0, it is highly unlikely... (probably impossible) that you will end up in the t14.

It is not impossible. He just needs to absolutely kill the LSAT.

But with a 156, I think all of the first tier (and maybe the second) is out of the question.

No worries and no offense taken. Top 14 or bust? Really? There aren't any other schools that have a respected reputation outside of the Top 14? I'm not being facetious, I'm seriously asking.

I guess my statemet may have been a bit exclusive, but if you kill the LSAT with a mid 160 range score after some heavy studying, I think you could certainly get into a T1 with a GPA addendum. In my opinion, most anything outside of the top 25 is really not worth going to unless they have a program that you are very interested in and places well or just in general place well in the area in which you want to work. Be aware that most anything outside the top 20 is a geographical lock. So go to school where you want to live/work the rest of your life.

Every top school that releases the numbers admitted 0 students with a GPA below 3.0.

Have you forgot about undergrad? Affirmative action may be an even bigger boost there.

Check LSN.

2.73/172 URM, Georgetown and UVA (with money): http://lawschoolnumbers.com/slightlystoopid

Other examples:

http://lawschoolnumbers.com/LazySplitter
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/sdedalus
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/adgrosve

I got lazy at this point, but there are more.

Not saying it's probably, but it's possible. A high LSAT + AA male + a good application will take him a long way. Work experience would help.

Yeah but its end result is relatively unimportant. Which offers more advantages? graduating from a high prestige UG or from a high prestige law school?

I would take the latter any day.

Don't underestimate UG prestige for OCI.

don't overestimate it either.

i would still take the prestigious UG because it affords you the best hope of not becoming a lawyer
