3.92 and 162: Texas or wait till January?
I'm retaking in December as I got 9 points below my PT average, and the obvious culprits are sleep, travel, and nerves. So my retake should be a lot higher.
In the meantime, is it worth it to apply to Texas early? Or better to wait?
I'm a Texas resident, I went to another university in Texas, and I served in the military. My other softs are also pretty good.
I was surprised when I looked up lawschoolpredictor.com, and it said "Consider."
Also, how about:
1. Boalt
2. UBC
3. Cornell

Why Boalt over Texas? I'm a Texas resident.
UBC=University of British Columbia, my backup plan if T10 doesn't work out.

Boalt loves high GPAs and a good story. They're more willing to forgive a lower LSAT. Texas isn't really.niederbomb wrote:Why Boalt over Texas? I'm a Texas resident.

No clue about UBC.

Alright, I guess apply nowhere until January.
Nothing below Texas is worth going to.

Apply now, then let the schools know you are retaking. This will get your file updated faster in January.niederbomb wrote:Alright, I guess apply nowhere until January.

Which texas school did you go to? pm if you want.
I dont think your shot is that bad at texas, request a hold on your account. But If you really want to get into the best school possible with the most money, wait until next year. Take the test in feb. or June. Lets say you get into texas and go, it you wait a year and get those nine points, a 171 might get you into SYH. Or even texas for free, which would mean $100,000 for your wait. Economies to crappy to just go.
I would pick texas over berk if you don't mind staying in texas. It will be $50,000 cheaper with not scholarships at either.

Lol. I think he was just trying to fit in with the overall theme of TLS and took it a bit too far.rad law wrote:Also this is silly.niederbomb wrote:

It is funny how "worth going to" fluctuates with the applicants numbers. Every one seems to believe the highest school they can get into is the last school that is worth going to.maxm2764 wrote:Lol. You never see any one say "just got my lsat back and none of the schools I could possible get into are worth going to, bye." Well, I guess they could just close their account and disappear into their little debt free futures.

No, T14 are, in general, the only ones worth the money. I'm not going to change based on present or future LSAT's. I will be one of the ones disappearing in my little (indebted, because I'll have to get a graduate degree in something else to make my liberal arts degree employable) future if T14/T3 Canada/Texas doesn't work out.maxm2764 wrote:

I make an exception for Texas because 1) the Texas economy is booming and 2) I can go there for free under the Hazlewood Act.

Saying you'd pay sticker at Cornell and GULC but not Vandy is pretty dumb. CHECK YOU NLJ250.niederbomb wrote: No, T14 are, in general, the only ones worth the money.

Nope, I wouldn't pay sticker at any of these places.niederbomb wrote:

The main reason I wouldn't go to Vandy is I have no desire/interest in working in the places in which it places most highly (the South/Midwest, if I am not mistaken). Texas is tuition free for me, so I'm willing to swallow my personal preferences and go there if need be.
Otherwise, it's NY, Chicago, LA, Toronto, or choose a different career.

Oh you mean "worth the money for you" and not just "in general." Actually Vandy does pretty well across the eastern seaboard but I can't find my placement chart right now. I do know that a plurality of grads too the NY Bar recently.niederbomb wrote:Nope, I wouldn't pay sticker at any of these places.niederbomb wrote:

Interesting...never would have guessed. I still don't think I would be a good fit for the school, considering the types of people they sometimes invite to speak (had enough of that in undergrad). But I wonder if Duke does similarly well on the eastern seaboard.Oh you mean "worth the money for you" and not just "in general."
